'Cause you are the piece of me I wish I didn't need
Hours passed and she felt like porcelain. Days streaked by and she could barely breathe with every sunrise. The silence screamed at her incoherently. The emptiness was unyielding inside of her, unable to be filled. How long would this last? She was going to cave into herself eventually. When she was alone she tried to be numb. But sometimes it didn't work. Sometimes his face was behind her eyelids. Sometimes a phantom set of his lips lingered on hers. Sometimes his warmth was imagined next to her frigid body. And sometimes, every now and then, she dared to actually attach a name to these thoughts. When she was weak, her mind ran with him across time and space itself. And at those times she was drowning yet burning. She couldn't breathe and her insides burned so painfully she would have done anything to make it stop. Six feet underwater, floating in the ocean for weeks. One night, her hand reached towards the surface.
Chasing relentlessly, still fight and I don't know why
She was climbing out of her window and running to the cliff before she could even think. Air was beneath her before she hit the water, swimming as fast as she could towards the city. Nothing stood in her way, her body pulling her forward while her consciousness was still locked away in the catatonic state she usually kept it at night. His apartment wasn't hard to find and she watched as her hand pounded on the door boldly. The door opened and the sight of him was enough to turn the key and make her breath come short. They stood there, staring at each other for a while. She couldn't speak. He didn't make a sound, just fighting the urge to reach out for her, to touch her, to hold her. The silence was screaming again and she took a few steps forward, making him back up and let her in. He closed the door softly and turned towards her expectantly.
If our love is tragedy, why are you my remedy?
She shifted and their eyes met again and something came alive inside of her. A small flicker of a flame she was trying to keep snuffed. Gold pierced aqua and soon the two bodies were close. Too close. This wasn't okay. She reached out to touch his face. What could it hurt? Her fingers graced his skin and his arm came around her. Suddenly he was on the other side of the surface. She could feel him all around her and it was going to break her. His scent, his touch, his warmth. Everything she wanted and everything she couldn't have was right here in her hands. Torsos together and she felt like her thirst was quenched but she needed more. She was dancing on that line between poison and remedy. Faces close together, pupils dilated, her hand slipped from his face down his neck, taking a breath and leaning up to brush lips. He gripped her tighter and came crashing down onto her, giving in.
If our love's insanity, why are you my clarity?
Their eyes closed and nothing was as real as the feel of their lips. When she finally could, she pulled back and took a breath, finally above the surface with him. How could this be wrong? How could she ever not need him? And in that moment everything was clear to both of them. They would always need each other. He inhaled her scent and dove back in, framing her face with one hand and letting them fall under the surface together.
