Hi guys, Just something I wrote in one of my lit classes, thought I'd share. Hope you like it...
The beast was slain. All that remained of the battleground was the falling dust and debris of the broken and mangled trees that made their way back to civilization. He cradled his lover in his arms, caressing her soft cheek, pleading with her. He would not allow the multiple wounds snaking their way down her body to claim her. He would ensure she would survive.
Little by little, he inched across the battleground, his wounds also taking their toll on his already weakened body, the almost feather-light weight of his lover adding to his pain. He stopped often to ensure his love was safe and would hold onto life for just a little longer. He knew she would survive, the others would make sure of it. As soon as he could get her away from the dying creature, he knew she would be fine. He was sure of it.
Limping past the spazming body, he continued to whisper reassurances to his comatose charge, willing her to awaken and reassure him it would all be ok. He couldn't imagine life without her. She was strong, a protector of the innocent, yet child-like in her actions. She truly is the only thing he cared about on this miserable excuse for a planet. He would give her anything she desired, if only she would wake up and tell him.
The almost forgotten monsters eyes rolled in the back of its head, and in its final breath, using the last of its strength, it hurled the knife at the man, striking him below the shoulder blade. Darien cried out in pain, doubling over his lover, if only to shield her from further attack, his cape coming away from his uninjured shoulder to billow in the wind. The town's saviour was no more.
