Harry can't believe how much he's enjoying his summer - really, Bloom's kept his aunt, uncle, and cousin off his back just by glaring at them. The fact that her eyes can turn orange and fire starts covering her body helps a lot - and the fact that there's nothing they can do about it, since she's using her fairy powers, makes it all the better.

Harry figures he's gained ten pounds since going to Hogwarts, and another five since Bloom came back to Privet Drive with him and started making feasts for the two of them. Dudley practically drools when she makes her homemade pizza appear, it always smells so bloody well good and he can't have any.

Vernon tried to keep her from doing stuff like it, but she pointed out - much to Harry's delight and Vernon's face turning redder than her hair - that they weren't making any kind of mess, weren't using any food of theirs, and weren't leaving anything to clean up, so it shouldn't really be a problem. There was no logical answer Vernon could find that didn't make him sound like a crazy person - and what was he going to say to someone, his hated nephew's friend is a troublemaker because she uses magic to generate food for the two of them and makes it disappear completely when they're full? Or that she shouldn't keep the house clean by snapping her fingers and magic-ing the dirt away? He always looks after his reputation first, before anything else. Dudley and Petunia come up a close second, Harry comes dead last after everything else - the only reason he had clothes to wear was because Vernon didn't want anybody important to see him living naked and so thin you could count every rib in his body. You could just count about five of them, when they were feeding him regularly.

That little detail horrified Bloom to no end when she heard it, how someone could treat their family like that is beyond her. To Harry, the Dursley's aren't really family, they're related but that's all.

Right now, they're outside in the lawn - Bloom's reading a book while lying on a tree branch, Harry's sitting directly under said branch and enjoying being outside. The peace and quiet is completely ruined when he hears some familiar footsteps tromping towards them.

"-and they never usually separate, guys. I'm telling you, he's hiding behind some little girl because the waste of space can't do anything." Dudley's loud, arrogant, and stuck-up voice rings far too loudly for either Bloom or Harry to not notice, and Bloom looks over to see Dudley and his four friends heading towards them.

They don't see Bloom, hidden as she is by the foliage, and march over to Harry. Dudley asks "Where's your freak of a friend, Potter? Not here for you to hide behind?"

His friend, who seems to be a sort of second-in-command in the group of bullies that they both just know are going to end up being a gang of thugs in jail someday, says "Well, too bad for him then." He goes to hit Harry, until a hand darts out and grabs his wrist - Bloom's glaring down at them, gripping the unfortunate kid's wrist in a grip that's as strong as iron.

"Five on one? You cowards should be ashamed of yourselves." She lifts the kid off the ground so he's eyelevel with her glare, and he immediately pales - and then she delivers a lightning-fast punch to the face, making him cover his now-bleeding nose and yell "Bloody hell! Run!" She drops him to the ground, where he lands in a heap for an instant before scrambling to his feet and taking off as fast as his feet will carry him.

The others scram, and Dudley gulps and backs up into the other tree that's providing some shade in the area. Bloom pokes him in the chest hard, saying "Keep your punk friends away from Harry. Or next time I will do more than just pick him up and drop him, got it?"

He nods, and she takes a step backwards - Dudley bolts, running in the immediately opposite direction from Bloom. When he's gone, running like all hell is after him instead of just Bloom's glare - which is bad enough, honestly - Bloom helps Harry up and asks "You alright, Harry?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks to you."

Bloom sighs in relief, and says "Next time, you go up in the tree."

Harry smiles, and says "Or we both go up, let them run around looking for us."

Bloom laughs, and says "Or that. There's that option to."

"So, what was that about? Not that I'm not grateful or anything, but…" But you don't usually go off like that.

Harry doesn't say it aloud, but Bloom sighs and says "I hate bullies. I really do. It's why Draco manages to get me so angry so easily. It's one of the reasons I don't like your aunt, uncle, and cousin all that much - at all, really. No offense."

"None taken, I'd leave if I had anywhere to go."

"You think Vernon will get angry about this?"

"Did anybody see anything magical?"

"I don't think so, but I could feel my blood boiling so…" She shrugs, and says "Vernon's scared of me, so he won't try anything. I don't usually like people being afraid of me, but…"

"But my 'family' is the exception. I get it, I really get it. More than anyone else."

"And maybe Malfoy. I wouldn't mind too terribly if he were too scared to try anything."

Harry laughs, and says "If only. I don't think the git has the brains to be scared of you."

"Or the motivation. If he only knew what he risks when he gets me mad."

Harry suddenly hugs her, taking her by surprise. "Um, what's…"

"Thank you, for everything. I just…just thank you." Her keeping the Dursleys and Dudley's friends off him for the past month has been the best thing anyone has ever done for him - literally, especially here. So just saying it didn't really seem to cut it. It may be her job at the moment, why she's here and why she's his age, but he still wants to thank her for it. She's supposed to keep him alive, she's doing so much more than that.

AN: Hey, all! I know it's been a while, but someone wanted more after my sequel to Wings and a Wand. So, short little one-shot - I think, not claiming to be an expert here - dump on the story.
