A/N: Gosh, I do love writing for Valina, don't I? It started out as an idea while I was lying with a cold in bed freezing my arms off... Went to type, thought it was going to be a drabble, then somehow it made its way to three hundred words.
Disclaimer: I do not own SRMTHFG.
Dagger of Ice
Coldness.
Valina grimaced. The bitter touch of cold struck her, making her flesh tingle. Hundreds of tiny knives. Flashes of agony etched her face, but with that pain and misery, there was the resigned look of one who has realized that to survive was the only thing that held any importance.
Staying alive was the only thing that mattered anymore.
In actual fact, she had already been killed.
Another knife of wintry air found its mark. Goosebumps sprang instantly up upon her greyed skin, spreading fluidly along her forearm, her shoulder, her neck... A violent shiver racked her arched back.
The limbo between death and living was a very cold and lonely place.
And in savage irony, the endless frost was the only thing keeping her from surrendering to death. She reached a weak arm forward, grabbing at a dagger of ice. The freezing sensation sent a jolt through her body. The cold kept her eyes open. It stopped her from falling out of her dream-like state. The sheer cold kept her from slipping into the void that waited behind her, a dark bank of shadows, growling for her, hungry...
The cold wouldn't let her give in.
She found it hard to tell if she was awake. Everything seemed a dream, unreal. Her limbs felt weak and her vision was faint. But still...
Reach, grab.
Stay alive.
Reach, grab.
Don't let it take you.
It was a like a sword. Cutting her palm, slicing across her hand. A deadly blade of iciness. The dagger slipped smoothly out of her grip each time she encircled it with her clawed hand. A touch was all she needed.
As long as she wasn't dead, the cold would torment her.
Reach, grab.
A lunge for a dagger of ice, and for one more moment of cheating death.
Now can someone PLEASE review with some constructive criticism? I've pretty much half-given up on this fandom. I skim the archive every day and there's not a single story that appeals to me. But, oh well...
