Smiles
She had always hurt the others. Any person that tried to cross the invisible barrier suffered from her curse. She couldn't help it, but she wanted it oh, so much.
She couldn't have any friends, everyone except her parents should be away from her.
So she smiled, always had a smile on her face. That was her defense. It could draw people to her but also pushed them. But she couldn't help it. She accepted that fate. To be alone in the middle of the crowd, smiling…
But there was a sudden change, someone, a person was trying to be a friend. He didn't want to be parted from her, she could notice it from everything he did for her. Even if he suffered, he tried to protect the others, regardless of what happened to him.
But she couldn't, she wouldn't, see him be hurt because of this curse of hers. Even if he wanted her friendship, as much as it pleased her, she could already see the grief that would fall upon him. She wouldn't do this, not to him, a true friend.
So she developed a plan to end this, once and for all.
The following day was sunny, a perfect day that could rise everybody's spirits. She was in a good mood. Her smile was, for once, real. Not that one that had become a mask over her feelings. It was the day of the fieldtrip to the beach, to study the ecosystems.
The sun kept shining and everyone could take beautiful pictures. It was lunch time and she was as many times, with her two friends.
It was funny as always and she appreciated to the maximum the feelings of being with friends and not thinking what kind of doom would she bring to them. Her smile faltered a little but no one noticed.
In the afternoon they explored the kinds of vegetation that existed and collected some samples.
The sun was setting and it was almost time to go back. It was time. All in all, her life hadn't been that bad but the curse had made her suffer immensely.
She told a colleague she was going to take some final photos and was told to hurry back.
In her way she crossed that person. Few last words were changed and she went to the board of the cliff.
So that was it. The camera was put on the ground and she jumped.
She never stopped smiling. Finally she could rest, knowing that nobody would be hurt by her fault never again.
As soon as her body met the ocean the sky was filled with dark clouds.
Rain started to fall as if the skies were crying.
