Disclaimer: I don't own "Supernatural" or The Dollars Trilogy"
Notes: I've been toying with this idea for awhile now, mostly because the idea that the Winchesters are somehow connected to The Man with No Name is just awesome, and I finally decided to write something. I may one day expand on this and turn it into a multi-chapter thing, but I'm not sure yet. We'll see how this goes.
Somewhere in Time
Dean isn't entirely sure what possessed him to try to trace his family tree. He hates research and sifting through files, but what Michael said is getting to him and he wants to know if maybe he and Sam aren't the first to face the 'saying yes' issue, so when he gets the chance he drags himself to the library to see if he can dig anything up.
He finds more about John's family than Mary's, but there's nothing about angels or demons or the apocalypse anywhere he can find, not even vague hints that most people wouldn't pick up on but he'd understand. He gives it up pretty quick, wondering why he ever thought it would be lucrative in the first place.
But it won't leave him alone; the thought that maybe there's something in his family tree that should have prepared him for this haunts him from morning until night and he knows he has to do something about it.
So he asks Cas. The angel stands silently by the window of the motel room for a few minutes after Dean poses the question, deep in thought. Dean thinks he knows something and is trying to decide if he should answer, so he waits impatiently to see what Cas will do.
Finally, he looks Dean in the eye, his face as impassive as usual. "There have been no encounters with angels in your family's past as far as I am aware," he says, but Dean can tell there's more and all he has to do is wait, trying not to seem too eager. "But your family has been preparing for this for centuries."
"How do you mean?" Dean asks, cocking an eyebrow.
"There are two men in your past who began the set up," Castiel replies, and Dean wonders if maybe this is something Castiel isn't supposed to tell him. He leans forward, waiting for more. "They were not related, but over time destiny has worked to bring their lines together to their final product: you and Sam and your roles in the outcome of the Apocalypse."
"And who are they?" Dean asked.
Castiel shakes his head. "I have told you more than I should already, Dean" he says.
Dean tries to put on the puppy-dog look like Sammy would, but it's not working for him. With a sigh, he sits up, knowing he won't get anymore out of his angel friend.
Somewhere in time, a man with no name buys a drink for a robber named Tuco. "I have a proposition," he says.
"What's that, Blondie?"
"We should go into business together."
"What sort of business is that?"
Blondie grins and there's an unsettling feeling in Tuco's gut. He downs his drink to quash it.
Blondie orders him another and raises his own in a toast. "To business," he says.
"To money," Tuco replies.
Somewhere in time, destiny is being decided.
