Let Me Feel
He stood at the window and glanced outside into the dark night; mind, body and soul as empty and gray as the starless sky outside. It was raining, as it had been all day long and would probably continue to tomorrow as well.
He could not tell for how long the rain had kept falling. To him, it was like an eternity. His soul felt like it had never seen even the hint of a sunray, it was as if the outside rain was merely mirroring his soul.
Tiredness and exhaustion threatened to overpower him. But sleep was not an option - it never came. So he continued to stare into nothingness. He looked worn, the many sleepless nights were taking their toll, and his days filled with too many insights into the abyss of human race did not go without leaving their traces either.
Unconsciously, he went into the kitchen, opened the door to the backyard and stepped outside. He felt the rain quickly soak his clothes, but the feeling remained limited to a nearly scientific registration of the fact that he was clad in wet cloth. He let his head fall back and turned his face into the rain, eyes closed.
Before he knew what was happening he had sunk to his knees, oblivious to the muddy earth around him, and fell to lie on his back, arms and legs stretched out in a helpless attempt to force the rain to wash away the numbness that nearly drowned him, to bring back the feelings that had gone from his body and soul he didn't know when, to let him feel something, anything at all.
And the raindrops started to mingle with the tears that he could finally cry.
