The Unsub Inside
There were moments when he had no idea about what was going on. It was as if the entire world was intent only on mucking about with him.
What had he done? And, more importantly, what else could he do?
He kept working himself to near exhaustion to help create a better, safer, world for his family, his child - only to have his wife run off because he couldn't devote as much time to her as she'd have wanted. But had he ever done anything else than devoting his time to his family, to protecting them? She yelled at him for bringing the daemons of his job home. But didn't he nearly split himself into two separate persons just to comply with her wants?
He was close to the most perfect employee any employer could wish for - good at his job, responsible, and dedicated. He led his team by example, he demanded a great deal of his team but always lived up to his own high standards. He cared about his team as much as he did about his job. Yet his superior deemed him to lack skills for his position, for fear of him surpassing her on the career ladder. He was the most loyal person one could think of, yet he was constantly being suspected of having a hidden agenda against his boss.
This was not going to continue. One day, he was sure of that, one day he would no longer take shit from anyone, he would stop functioning, he would stop accepting being ordered aroung by anyone as their pawn on the politics playground. His wife could no longer tell him how to behave. His boss could no longer tell him how he had to do his job. His cases could no longer force him to look into the abyss of the human race day after day.
No. He would just stop. Stop doing, stop obeying, stop behaving. Instead, he would just be. And the thought of what might be unleashed if he just was held more terrors than any crime he'd ever seen in his life.
