They found her hidden under the bed. To anyone else walking in, the pink and white bedroom would have looked completely normal. It would have looked innocent. But they knew better. And so did she…so she hid.
They knew why she was hiding. They'd been walking so that their footsteps sounded as one on the cold tiles of the hallway. She'd thought that they were the one who had been hurting her. But they weren't. And when they knelt down so that she could see their faces and they could see hers, she moved even farther back…to ensure that they wouldn't be able to reach her.
And they didn't try to, either. Instead, they looked back up at each other for a long moment. Finally, she shook her head in blatant disgust, and he knew why. After all, he felt the same way. They'd been going around in circles trying to find an earlier victim so they could nail their latest suspect. And in all that time they'd spent searching, they'd been missing the most obvious one.
It was no surprise to either of them that even after they'd shown her their gold shields, she still didn't trust them. After all, her abuser had many friends in the department. It wouldn't have been hard for him to send a couple of them to shut her up…to keep her from telling the detectives present now everything they needed to know. It would've also been easy for her to just stay under the bed, but after a few minutes of them talking to her, she came out, slowly, still eyeing them suspiciously.
He'd left the room at that point. It was always easier for child victims to relate to Olivia anyway. And he had the feeling that they would get nothing out of this one unless it was completely one on one.
What seemed like an eternity passed before the door opened and Olivia walked out, holding the child in her arms. The girl's face is hidden in her shoulder, and he can't blame her for it.
After all, after this, she'll have nowhere left to hide.
A/N: Ok. This is the last of the "I'm bored" fics for a few hours, I think. Anyways...SVU's not mine and I'm gonna go before I start rambling.
