In This Moment

"Love will find a way through paths where wolves fear to prey"- Lord Byron

Doing something because you can do and doing something because you want to are two different things.

Magic has always the former for Regina for Regina.

She's gone through two lifetimes, both of which are too painful to fathom.

It took her a crown, murderous rampages and one dark curse to finally let go of the first one.

But the second one is still as painful as pain can possibly go. It already took away half her soul and yet... It still feels raw...

As though she'll never be whole ever again.

That's how dreadful she feels.

At least there is Henry.

He is her only remaining hope in this dark cruel world that takes delight in turning pure hearts into dark and shattering souls.

So when the moment came to choose between her life and his, the decision was not up for any discussion.

It was a gloomy Friday the 13th when the silence that was Storybrooke was shaken by an ear deafening shriek of the creature with two reptilian heads.

It was a hideous monster of wonderland origin.

Yes.

It was the jabberwock.

She has no idea how it got to town since the portals were even harder to come by than before but it was here.

And it was lunging towards Henry.

All the legends and the myths she's ever read has always said one thing to vanquish such beast

OFF WITH ITS HEAD

And a valiant knight in his dashing armour will cut its head off.

She knows that.

Henry doesn't.

She transported herself in front of her son and let out a massive stream of magic against it.

She managed to injure it but it was only minor.

Without the vorpal blade, which only appears to its chosen few, all her efforts will be for naught.

Without it, the monster will only regenerate.

All she can now do was stall until the Charming baseball team with their Pirate Mascot.

The jabberwock once again lunged towards Henry but this time she acted as his human shield.

She managed to hit it with her fireball and it flew away but the damage was done.

Her chest was open and blood was spurting.

The jabberwock stabbed her with its claw and hit a major blood artery.

And now she's bleeding out.

Henry was panicking.

He tried calling out to the woods, hoping that a magical solution would save his mother.

He refused to acknowledge the severity of the situation and Regina can only smile at that.

He still is the truest believer.

She can feel herself growing weaker due to hypovolemic shock.

Her time was running out.

"I love you"

And that is all that she was able to mutter for her one last breath.

Standing upon the hill, the man who was wearing white stood still and held his breath as a figure started to materialise in front of his eyes.

He tries to feel remorse because of this but he can't. . .

Not when he can hold her between his arms once again.

The eyes of the person started to flutter open and then blue met brown, with which his entire universe revolves upon.

She was speechless.

Frozen on the spot she was sitting.

So he ran.

He may hate the way that they meet but he would never regret this moment.

She found her strength and lifted herself up and ran towards him as well.

He cradled her in his arms as he swung her around.

Tingles of electricity ran through her blood.

She looks around.

"Welcome to Elysium" whispered Robin...

Her eyes widened.

She's been judged and the scale was found to be fair...

And in this moment as she stares to his oceanic eyes, drowning in it willingly, she realises one thing.

When she was walking the grounds of the Earth, she was only half the woman she was.

And now that she's dead...

Paradoxically ironic as it may seem

but...

She's never felt more alive.
