Explanations.
Holly sprinted to the junkyard where her and her step brother met each day for school. Justin's father was a beer addict, and died at age twenty-five. His Mother (Maggie) was a Tobacco Chewer, and neglected Justin's basic needs. Holly's Dad was an addict of virtually every drug. Cigars, cigarettes, e-cigarettes, chew, snuff, pretty much anything with Nicotine. Holly's Mother was a great person, and had gone into an arranged marriage with Chris (Holly's Dad). As soon as she found out about the drugs, they immediately got a divorce. Chris then married Justin's Mom, and Chris is very unimpressed with him, and beats him frequently.
Holly's stepdad, who she called Dad, because he'd been the father she'd grown up with, married Lydia, her mother nearly seven months after Lydia's divorce to Chris. Justin often came and slept over at Holly's house, because his parents would never notice, and Justin wouldn't be beaten. Holly's Mom and Dad had talked about taking Justin's condition to court, gaining custody over him. After making the decision to do so, they scheduled a date which at this day, was three days away.
"Hi Justin!" Holly cried, finally reaching the junkyard. She grasped him in a huge bear hug.
"'Lo Holly," he replied, returning her embrace.
"So, what happened when you got home from school last night?" Holly asked, cringing in preparation for the answer.
"Pa gave me only one beating. It was quite alright," Justin answered, staring at the snow covered ground around him.
Holly laid a hand lightly on his shoulder. "Don't worry," she said with confidence. "In only three more days you'll be safe from all this stuff."
Justin smiled weakly. "I know. I'm excited," he commented, a little less tense than he had been before.
Holly's hair whipped around in the wind. "Bur! Let's get to school before I'm frozen solid!"
JJJJJ
Justin ran his hands through his curly brown hair, massaging his scalp as he always did when trying to solve a math problem, which he was very good at. Good at indeed.
"Justin," said the girl next to him, Jane Poitier. "I was wondering if you'd like to attend Morp with me?"
Morp was just Prom completely backwards. Like, the girl would ask the boy, and some people would even go as far as to have the boy in the couple dress up as the girl, and the girl, the boy.
"Sorry, I'm going with my sister," he said, a little embarrassedly. "Sorry," he added, just for good measure.
She smiled, and waved it off. "That's alright," she said.
Justin was sixteen, and he could certainly date, but he refused. Holly couldn't find a date either, so she just asked Justin, and of course Justin said yes, and they just went as friends and siblings.
After class Justin walked down the hall. This day just got more and more interesting every second.
