He left her with two choices. The first was to stay and drink, the second was leave. Of course she would choose the first option, why wouldn't she? It meant that she got to spend time with him. She took a seat beside him and watched as he waved the bartender to give her a drink.

"What's wrong with me Bones?" he downed another shot and slammed the glass onto the counter, picking up another and doing the same.

"Nothing is wrong with you Booth" Bones also downed her shot and placed the empty glass alongside Booth's, before turning her attention to him.

"There must be something wrong Bones, that's two women that have turned me down. What do I do wrong that makes women not want to marry me?" he put his head in his hands and let out a sigh.

"You have done nothing wrong Booth. It's not your fault" Bones could feel the butterflies inside her. She never believed in love, but this was what she was feeling. Booth had tried with her on more than one occasion but she always said she couldn't but then when she could, he wasn't available. So she had to sit back and watch as he gave his heart to another woman. She acted like it never bothered her but it had. It had bothered her a lot. And now here she was consoling him because the woman he loved had turned down his proposal.

"It must be. I'm a good guy, I know how to treat a woman right. I would make a wonderful husband, so why won't anyone have me?" he went to reach for another drink but noticed there weren't any left. He went to wave to the bartender for another but felt another hand on his, pushing it gently to the counter.

He looked at Bones and smiled weakly. She looked beautiful, she always did. But tonight, tonight there was something different. There was something about the way she was looking at him, the way her hand was still holding his on the counter.

"I know someone who will have you Booth" her voice was quiet. Just above a whisper. He could tell her breathing was getting heavier by the rasps between the words.

"Yeah?" he looked into her eyes and noticed that they seemed bluer than usual. They glistened slightly and he felt his heart skip a beat. He had never gotten over her. Not truly. He never could. "Who?" he leaned in closer.

Bones stared at him, feeling his breath on her neck. It was warm and spelt of vodka but she didn't care. He was hurting. She needed to stop the hurt. He was in pain. She needed to stop the pain. She needed to stop the pain she was also feeling. The pain of realising that she, Temperance Brennan, could actually be in love. To understand the concept and that it wasn't just about pheromones and golden ratios. It was about the way you felt with someone, the way you needed them around otherwise you felt lost, being with that someone made you feel complete. Loved. That was has Booth made her feel.

She leaned in and kissed him. Something the old Temperance would have never done, but this was a new Temperance. A more rational Temperance. A Temperance who would go after what she wanted, no matter at the cost.

Booth, shocked at first, responded to the kiss and placed a hand on her arm softly. He could feel his body responding to the kiss. This was what it was supposed to feel like. This is what he had been waiting for. It felt like the first time. After a minute or two they pulled away but kept their faces close to each other.

"Wow" Bones whispered with a sigh. Her heart beating faster, her body feeling weaker.

"Yeah" Booth replied with a smile, looking at her. She looked back and smiled. This is how it was meant to be. This is how it should have been all along. Two pieces of the puzzle, finally joined as one.
