AN: I haven't seen many Cloverfield stories yet. I thought I'd do one about Marlena and Hud, my two favourite characters in the movie. This is just a simple, cute oneshot. Nothing lovey dovey. Just a missing moment that could have happened between these two characters. Reviews are appreciated.

"Hud?"

I turned towards her, zooming in on her with the camera. She only looked mildly annoyed by this, however. "Yeah?" was my reply; I wasn't really in a talkative mood. None of us were. We'd been walking down the track for around twenty minutes now and all I could see was darkness up ahead. Plus, it was getting really cold for some reason. Marlena glanced warily at Rob and Lily, who were walking up ahead, and then fell into step beside me. I promptly turned off the camera.

"I'm sorry," she started in a whisper, "about before. You know, when you were asking me to do that message thing for Rob. I was a bitch to you, and.. I'm just sorry, all right? I was just in a pissy mood at the party."

I managed to smile at her, even though I had a headache from all the shouting I'd done before. "It's okay, I was pressing you, and I'm sorry about that too. Plus, I must have seemed like a real loser to you, anyway." She stopped at my words and glanced at me, looking like she agreed with me, but also looking quite guilty for some reason.

"I don't think you're a loser," she said flatly, "I just.. this isn't exactly the greatest day of my life. If I'm a little.. you know, it's just because of.. this.."

She waved a hand around and dropped it, looking exasperated. "I just can't believe this is happening. One minute you're at some party for someone you barely even know, the next you're trying hard not to be eaten by some huge monster.."

"I know, I'm still having trouble comprehending it too," I admitted, giving her a wry smile, "Still, we're alive, and that's something."

"Is it?" she laughed cynically, "You know, after everything I've seen tonight, I can't help but wish that I was already dead."

I stopped walking and glanced at her, shocked. "Don't think like that, okay? Look, if you had died out there.."

She glanced at me, questioning, then seemed to search my face to find out what I was hiding. I couldn't very well tell her that I liked her, a lot, that I had liked her for some time and had been too afraid to tell her of my feelings. Now wasn't the time. We all had to concentrate on surviving now; I would have to save all that for later.

"If you wanna tell me something, Hud," she started plainly as we started walking again, "then now would be a great time to say it. There's a great chance that we're both gonna die down here tonight, and if you.. if there's something you.."

I was extremely nervous now. Despite everything that was going on around us I had a sudden urge to tell her. And maybe she was right. Maybe I'd never get another chance. "Marlena.." I started, and stopped, feeling embarrassed, "Forget it. Doesn't matter. C'mon, we need to catch up.."

As I began to pick up the pace she grabbed my arm and stopped me, looking into my eyes. "Thanks," she said, sounding on the verge of tears, "You know, for asking if I was okay before. I should have said something back, but.."

I nodded, unable to say anything to this. My heart was pounding. Marlena just smiled and started to catch up with Rob and Lily. I glanced after her for a moment before glancing down at the camera in my hands. I switched it back on and continued to document.
