Defiance. Prologue.

A dark stranger stood amongst purity.
A net of snow fell over the white ground and dull surroundings. The tall figure was adorned in a raven cloak. The stranger's vibrant teal eyes shone brilliant through the snow's cascade.
The puffy sky hung overhead, holding the sun captive. The many snowflakes fell softly and silently around the feminine figure, never once daring to fall upon her.
"You're late." Her hypnotic voice slithered.
The man in a business suit trudged through the shallow snow in a rush. "I know, I know." H e huffed. "Forgive me. I—I was not aware of the time."
"I told you to be here precisely at four o'clock, and still, you ignore my command." She spoke with an air of authority about her.

Her brilliant dark aqua nail polish caught his eyes momentarily. "I should like to continue business with you." Her voice snapped his attention back.
"Yes. Well. Whenever you need me, just call and I'll—"
"Be on time." She leveled.
"Yes of course…" He cast his eyes down.
"Your check will be in your mailbox by Friday. Good day." She turned to leave.
"But it's only Monday, couldn't you just—" He took a step forward but quickly sputtered back as she snapped around. Her eyes bore into him like burning ice. "Friday's good." He eased back, holding his breath.
She looked him over and then turned from him and walked away. Brian McNeal let out a long sigh of relief. He didn't dare turn his back. He waited with caution and watched the retreating figure of one of the Endless…
