Short Interlude
Disclaimer: I do not own any of the canon characters; they belong to Marvel and Stan Lee, may he rest in peace. Based on the prompt: "I'd kill for a coffee."
Word Count: 222
As they sit in the underground bunker waiting for a chance to escape, Agents Barton and Romanoff let out a shared sigh.
"I'd kill for a coffee," Natasha mumbles, twirling a knife in her hands to help pass the time. "Literally," she admonishes, feeling all of the energy pouring out of her body.
"Good thing I packed this then, huh?" Clint smirks, pulling a small thermos out of his black backpack. "Here, Nat. Curb your murderous tendencies," Hawkeye chuckles, and Natasha nearly rips the thermos from his strong, calloused hands.
"You're a life-saver, Clint!" the Black Widow grins, a thin line of coffee on her top lip.
"You know what I need right now? A shower."
"You certainly smell like you need one, Barton."
"Did you have to crawl through a sewage pipe, Romanoff?" Clint demands, a quizzical expression on his face. "Didn't think so."
"Well, did you have to intimidate four armored guards in Russian?" Nat counters. "Of course not! Because you only took Spanish and French at the academy."
"Then it's a good thing I always get paired with you. Now, are you ready to show these simpletons what real teamwork looks like?" Clint laughs, stringing his bow in anticipation.
"Right behind you. Anything to get back on a plane with endless coffee," Natasha jokes, her eyes sparkling in determination.
Author's Note: I just love the back and forth bickering relationship that Hawkeye and Black Widow have! To me, not only do they seem like best friends, but they most certainly act like surrogate siblings for each other in a way, a fact which we later see in Age of Ultron when it is revealed that Natasha is known as "Auntie Nat" to Clint's kids. Anyway, I wanted to write a short piece on this dynamic duo for a while now, and I figured that this prompt I found was the time to do so since I was already writing 31 drabbles for this challenge anyway! Besides, there is certainly a lack of male and female friendships in media, and that is what most of my real-life friendships are, because I find guys a lot easier to get along with than girls most of the time! Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed this drabble! As always, reviews are greatly appreciated. Until next time, dear readers! Have an amazing day, afternoon, or night!
