Many years ago, Noxus was known for a spectacle called The Fleshing. It's a gladiatorial event with a brutal twist: when a fighter wins the race, the number of opponents he fights simultaneously (usually prisoners of war) increases. This means the ultimate death of each competitor, but with unparalleled honor. Xin Zhao, then known as Viscero, was set to face 300 soldiers, almost six times the previous record. It was clearly his last game.
Hearing about this unprecedented feat, Jarvan II infiltrated the arena, offering him an alternative: to serve Demacia and punish those who ultimately sentenced him to death in exchange for his freedom. Xin zhao accepted, surprised that a king would risk his life for him. Under cover of a pre-arranged dematha attack on Noxus, Jarvan liberated Xin Zhao and his 300 opponents. During their retreat, xin chao brought a poison dart for Jarvan. This act of loyalty, from a man who did not swear allegiance, gave xin zhao a place at his side until the day the king died.
