"Ow!" Spike said patiently as Buffy backhanded him across the face.

"Sorry." She replied flatly, standing there watching him calmly.

"Quite alright, pet." He replied as he returned an identical blow across her face. She didn't even stumble, just went straight into another swing.

"How long have we been doing this now?" She asked as that backhand connected.

"Can't remember." He answered, sending back another identical blow. He shrugged. "Seems like forever though."

"Huh." She commented, repeating the action again. "That's a long time."

SMACK! Went her hand across his face but he barely reacted to it at all. Spike drew back and let loose another swing.

"Ever thought about stopping?" He asked as the sound of flesh striking flesh sounded yet again. It was Buffy's turn to shrug.

"I don't know." She said, striking him again.

Spike swung into his turn but stopped at the last moment before it connected with her face. His hand hung there, inches away. The both looked at it, hovering there, for a long moment. He finally let the hand drop.

Buffy frowned at him but then went into her swing.. Spike suddenly took a step back and then lashed out.. catching her hand in both of his. Their eyes met over the top of them. Spike dropped one hand, leaving their clasped hands raised in the air between them.

Totally relaxed, they stood there watching each other calmly.

Buffy face unexpectedly broke into a wide grin.

"Wanna arm wrestle?" She asked playfully.

Spike grinned back.

"Sure. I can take you easy." He replied.

"There will be no taking!" She told him firmly, but her eyes were dancing with laughter.

"You say that now.." He smirked at her.

"Woah.. too much topic change.. not enough arm wrestling.." Buffy countered in the same light tone.

"You started it." Spike reminded her.

"Did not." She denied.

"Did too." He insisted.

"Armwrestle." She said firmly, smiling.

A table appeared between them and chairs behind, they sank down.. their clasped hands never separating.

Anyone watching wouldn't be sure whether the battle was a game or a war. Their smiles were playful.. but they were both trying to win.

"You know Spike.." Buffy began in the midst of the battle. "We've got a force between us that's more powerful than true love.."

"And what's that, pet..?" Spike asked warily.

Buffy smiled seductively.

"We both want the last word." She said silkily.

Spike looked away, a teasing smile playing on his lips.

"I don't have to give an answer to that.." He began.

"See." Buffy cut in softly..

..and then tried to use the fact that he was momentarily distracted from the arm wrestling to push his elbow off the table.. But Spike was fast, he resisted and pushed his hand back against hers.

Their eyes met again and twin teasing smiles split their faces.

Note: I've nicked the "last word" lines from the TV show 'Press Gang' (written by Steve Moffat).. because I really wanted to put those words into Spike and Buffy's mouths. They seemed to fit.
