Chapter 1: The first Change
I watched the figure on the bed, Fives was as still as the dead but thankfully he was just knocked out. I knew I should've done something, I had sensed something in that cave, if only I'd payed more attention.
"It's not your fault, Fives knew the danger."
I jumped at Rex's sudden appearance by my shoulder. He was holding a mug of caf so it was safe to assume he'd just come from the mess.
"Yes it is, if I had payed more attention to my feelings..."
"We'd all be dead from blaster shots, the captain's right general." Kicks cut in.
Sighing I go back to Fives watching. He'd grown paler over the week he'd been out, his cheeks had become hollow and his breathing had become less noticeable. Everyone was very worried, especially Echo and I.
As I was the only one watching I was the first to see Fives' eyes flutter open.
"Kicks, Rex come look at this!" I shouted.
We gathered around the bed and watched hopefully for the arc to awaken, it soon became clear that wasn't happening.
His pupils had dilated to the point no gold iris was visible, it made my stomach turn.
"Fives?" Kicks asked quite but got no answer.
The fully blown pupils began to retreat, we waited for the gold to come back, it didn't.
"That's not natural." Rex mutted.
We thought it was over when the whites of my husband's eyes followed his pupil's lead. In their wake there was only blackness.
It finally ended when his pupils were pinpricks, his whites the size his pupils should be and everything else was darkness.
"What just happened?" I asked no one in particular.
"I don't know." Rex answered as Kicks shook his head.
"We're scheduled for league on coriscant, I can look up something in the temple." I didn't know what happened but I wasn't about to give up on my husband.
