Awkward Steps To Understanding

It was Valentine's Day alright. So Kagura was sitting in her living room- alone, watching Napoleon Dynamite for the 20th time wondering if her 'boyfriend' would be considerate enough to visit.

She glared at the movie as she mouthed the next couple of lines to herself, imitating their facial expressions as well as she pondered. Slumping down in her seat, she sulked, grabbing up the remote and flipped it around in her hand uselessly. It was Valentine's Day, the Day for 'love,' and her 'boyfriend' was so far a no-show.

But, her hopes got jacked up a little when there was a knock on the door. She jumped up to open it and standing there was her 'boyfriend' looking like his usual apathetic self, with a rose in his hand. But that wasn't what was interesting, it was the color of the said rose that got to her.

She eyed it thoughtfully, for it was black. She had never seen a black rose before. She had heard that people sometimes bought them for a funeral casket, but she had never expected one to be given to her while she was still alive. She didn't think anyone got one while they were alive, if they did at all. She smirked and took it from his fingers gently. "How kind of you." She commented in a sarcastic yet pleased tone.

"It matches your attitude," he told her nonchalantly.

She stepped to one side. "Do you wanna come in or something?" She asked, still smiling as she held the precious flower delicately, so as not to stifle it and cause it to whither.

He nodded and walked inside. "Happy Valentine's Day," he told her with a hint of sarcasm.

"Same to you. I was afraid you'd show up in pink." She jested as she shut the door behind him.

He looked at her, his eyebrow raised. "Were you thinking of Jakotsu instead?"

She laughed a little realizing that the young man was just the one who would get dressed up for the occasion in that manner. "I might have been." She said.

He sat down in her chair and stared at the TV. She sat down beside him, still carefully holding the rose. "Happy Valentine's Day," she told him quietly.
