A/N: I got to thinking one day 'what would happen if Belarus stopped going after Russia and just gave up?' Well this is the product of when my mind starts to wander. I'm also disappointed in the fact that so many people think that Belarus is always so crazy and a stalker and that there are so few fics of these two acually being a couple. Belarus is one of my favorite characters for whatever reason.
On a sunny, cold winter day in the country of Belarus a young blonde women slept soundly in her bed. As the alarm went off she started to stir and slowly opened her eyes to the new day. She made no attempt to get up, as she stared blankly at the ceiling, as if deep in thought.
"That's it...I give up. Brother will never love me and he will never see how I truly feel about him. He will never see me..." a teardrop slowly fell from her eye. She blinked it away and slowly got up, sighing heavily. Looking at herself in the full body mirror that was propped up against the wall she opened up her closet to reveal multiple blue dresses. She pulls out a navy blue dress with a white apron and slings it across her arm as she makes her way to the private bathroom to shower.
Upon finishing her morning shower she dries herself and her long hair before dressing and exiting. At her vanity she picks up a gold necklace with a heart locket on it, adorning her neck with it she hides the small piece of jewelry under her high collar before pulling on a pair of black stocking. Picking up a headband with a large white bow on it she carefully positions it in her hair before assessing herself in the mirror.
She smoothed out her skirt and adjusts her apron before turning and leaving the room.
"There's a world meeting today." she said softly to herself, her tone dejected. Usually she would look forward to these meetings more than anything, but today she just didn't want to go. But she knew that it would look strange if she didn't show up for a meeting that was being held in her own country. "Maybe today the meeting will end early." however, she knew that it was only wishful thinking.
When she arrived at the conference hall only a countries were gathered in the large room, but that was to be expected. After all, it was only just after 8:00 in the morning. Most of them were either the Asian or European countries. Among the countries that were there were Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Russia. Otherwise known as her "family."
Lithuania was the first approch her as she saw Russia hide behind the chair he was sitting in. It only made her sigh heavily.
"G-good morning Miss Belarus."
"Good Morning Lithuania."
Everyone in the room did a double-take. Normally she wouldn't say a word to him but rather pushed right through him and went straight to Russia. But today she decided not to and that some other company would be nice.
"Miss Belarus, would you like to sit next to me at today's meeting...? I mean! I would understand if you would like to go sit with your brother and all but-" before he could say much more he was interrupted by Belarus.
"No, it will be fine sitting with you Lithuania." the two walked over to the table and sat down much to everyone's shock.
Together they chatted like old friends, as if all eyes in the room weren't on them. Russia slowly made his away out from behind the chair. He watches them curiously, a small unfamiliar pang in his chest. But he pushes it aside as a slow smile makes its way across his face. Only one thought in his mind.
She has finally stopped!
The meeting begins and drags on with the day. Nothing really new was discussed and it was a relatively normal meeting-or at least normal by their standards. As the meeting ends the nations each filed out one by one, most ready to retire for the day and begin anew tomorrow. Where hopefully something will be acomplished.
As all the occupants left Belarus was one of the few left, the others being her family and Poland. Taking in a deep breath she makes her way up to them, well aware of the stares she recieved.
"Everyone, I would like to invite all of you back to my house to have dinner with me."
"Natalia, is something the matter? You never ask for us to join you for dinner anymore." Ukraine looked at her younger sister in surprise, however the younger girl only smiled at her. A sweet and sincere smile.
"This is only one of the handful my country hosts. It's been a while since we all sat down and ate together, and I would like to be able to do that again if you would all agree. But I do understand that this out of the blue. It was just a suggestion, especially if you all have other plans."
"Like, we should all totally go." Poland spoke not even a second later. For a few the agreement was reluctant, but they soon found themselves back at her home. With the help of her sister and Lithuania dinner was served not too long after. They ate happily and like a family for the first time since the fall of their union.
After dinner was cleaned up and done, desert was served and they sat around the table and talked. At the end of the night she invited them to stay and all but Ukraine had declined.
"What is going on with you Natalia?" Ukraine mused to herself ad she sat down on the plush bed to think. Her thoughts were interupted when her sister entered the room a light blue nightgown slung over her arm.
"I don't know if it will fit you, but it's one of my largers ones."
"I think that it will be alright." Ukraine smiled and thanked her before going into the bathroom to try it on. she walked out and it looked like it fitted but looked a little snug around her bust. "It's a little tight around by chest, but then again most of my clothes are. Thank you Natalia." Ukraine tugged at the dress a bit to adjust it, trying to make it as comfortable as possible.
"If you would like, maybe I could find something bigger?"
"No. No, that wont be necessary Natalia. It fits just fine, but I do want to talk to you about something. Sit and talk with me." Ukraine sat down on the bed and urged her sister to do the same thing, patting the spot beside her. Belarus slowly sat down next her and for a while Ukraine thought about what to say while her sister waited quitely.
Finally Ukraine found the right words.
"Natalia. Why so suddenly have you changed today? Hmmm? You're not asking Ivan to marry you and you're tolarating Toris. Is something the matter? Are you not feeling well?" too busy trying to figure out her sister's motives the elder didn't notice the sadness that filled the younger's eyes.
Belarus clutched the skirt of her dress in her fists so hard that her knuckles were starting to turn white. She bit her bottom lip to keep herself from crying and bowed her head shutting her eyes tight to keep the tears from coming, but soon tears slipped past her closed eyes they fell on her balled hands.
A choked sob was what caught her sister's attention. "Bela?"
She didn't answer.
"Natalia? What's wrong?"
She still said nothing, only heavy breathing and choked sobs were what answered the worried tone.
"Nattie. D-did I say something to upset you?" worry continued raising in her voice and she could feel her own tears prick at her eyes.
Belarus shook her and attempted to wipe the tears.
"I-it's not you. Please d-don't start crying too." was all she managed to get out before launching herself at her sister and clinging tightly to her and burrying her head in her chest. Caught off guard Urakine hadn't been expecting such a reaction. Her little sister was strong, far stronger than she, and she hadn't had to deal with comforting the younger girl since they were tiny. Ukraine could only rub at the other girl's back and attempt to whisper words of hopeful comfort to her.
Belaru cried for what felt like hours before she finally couldn't cry anymore. Pulling back she sniffled a little before rubbing her eyes some more. Ukraine brushed her messy bangs out of her tear soaked, red eyes, tucking the strands behind an ear.
"Nattie, you need to tell me what's going on, please. You're my sister, I worry." Belarus only shook her head, not wanting to admit the source of her tears. However being the good big sister she was Ukraine had a good idea as to what was causing her sister's suffering. "It's Ivan isn't it?" she only lowers her eyes, "Why though? Why Nattie?"
Deciding that it would a better idea to keep her mouth shut Belarus said nothing and only continued to keep her eyes down.
"Natalia Arlovskaya! You will tell me why this instant."
Ukraine's voice was stern and comanding, Belarus couldn't remember the last time her sister used this voice at her or anyone else.
"Irunya, please just stop asking. I don't want to talk about it. And as my sister I ask that you stop and let me be."
"But this is the first time I've seen tears out of you since we were tiny. This is hurting you. Just talk to me."
"No. Please don't make me..." seeing that she could not get it out of her sister Ukraine only sighed and pulled the girl in for a hug.
"When you're ready we will talk." Belarus nodded and returned the much needed hug.

The next morning the two left together for the conference hall. A stronger understanding and love between them. Entering the hall they found everything as it should be. For the most part all of the Asian nations were together talking a corner of the room, the same went for most other nation groups as well.
They all spent the early morning talking while they waited for all to be present before taking roll and begining the meeting. Apart from the usual outbursts, yelling, and fighting the meeting progressed at a good pace and the day was ajourned until the next.
After the meeting Russia made his way toward his two sisters. Belarus noticed and only fought back the urge to greet him and make contact. Ukraine could only watch as her sister reigned in her control. "Hello Ukraine." he smiled at her before turing to look at his younger sister. "Hello Belarus."
"Hello, Russia." she kept her voice even and distant. And watched as Russia struck up a conversation with their sister, the ache in her chest eventually became too much and he barely had time to excuse herself before running off. Unaware of the worried eyes of her family.
'Brother wants me to crack. He wants to test me and see if I break. I won't let him.'
The young nation soon arrived back home and by then she had calmed down some. She was greeted by a maid but she was ignored as Belarus ran straight for her room, slamming the door. Sliding to the ground she pulled her knees up to her chest and buried her head in her knees and sat there. No tears, she just sat there for a long while.
Eventually she got up, changed, and went to bed. And the next day Ukraine was the first to approch her.
"Natalia, what happened yesterday? You ran off without a word." she only adverted her eyes and knew that her sister would understand. Nodding and offering a small smile Ukraine hugged her sister tightly before allow her to go and do as she please.
Sitting down in her seat he relaxed some, enough so that she could put her head down and rest for a little bit. She hadn't gotten much sleep the night before and it was starting to catch up with her, and she had at least an hur left before the meeting was to start. As she slowly faded into the dream world she could still pick out the voices of familar nations, mostly those of her family and vaguely wondered if any of them would notice her drifting off. Barely able to continue her thoughts Belarus closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep in the middle of the conference hall.
Ukraine was the first to notice that her sister's voice hadn't been heard yet and scanned the room in search of her. Landing on a familar figure bent over and resting with her head on her arms panic instantly shot through the woman. Rushing toward the younger girl Ukraine hurridly shook her a couple times before she woke up.
"Hmm? Sister...?" Belarus blinked sleepily as she looked around. A few nations had crowded themselves around her, many looked rather worried.
"Oh thank God you're awake. I thought that something might've been wrong!" Ukraine held her close and breathed a sign of relief. "Is something the matter? You don't usually fall asleep like this."
"It's nothing, I just didn't sleep well last night. You're worrying too much." The small crowd dispersed as Ukraine continued to fret over her sister's lack of sleep. Belarus only sighed softly. No one would've noticed if her sister hadn't made such a big deal over it. She let out a heavy sigh as she watched as all the nations took their seats and the meeting began.
When it was finally over she immediately left, not speaking a single word to anyone, not even her sister.
At home she ran a hot bath and dumped a handful of bath salts and scented oils into the water. Doing anything to make the water and the bath as relaxing as possible, she was desperate to finally relax and let go. Throwing her clothing on the floor she slowly sank down into the water. Soon enough she was fully submerged, leaning back she closed her eyes and allowed the tenseness to disappear. And just as she was starting drift off a little an image of Russia appeared in her head, snapping her back to reality.
"Damnit why can't I get him out of my mind?"
'Because you still love him too much to let go, no matter how much to deny it' the other part of her responded.
'Just shut up!'
'No. You know thats the truth and you should just accept it.'
'Ivan is better off without me, besides it's helping my relationship with other nations now that I've stop chasing him.'
'But now you're crying over him more than ever how does that help YOU?'
'It doesn't so just be quiet about it. Sometimes a nation has to forego their own feelings and move forward for their people.'
'But you'll be like this for the rest of your long life, is that okay with you?'
"Shut. It." Belarus let out a frustrated growl and got out of the tub. She quickly dried off, drained the tub, and threw on her night gown making a beeline for her bed. Hoping that sleep would ward off the voice.

Months passed and Belarus kept up her indifferent mask at every interaction with Russia, only to go back home and let out her tears. Ukraine stood by, helpless as her sister brushed off her offerings of help. From time to time Belarus wanted to slip back into the person she was before her dramatic change, but she thought against it. Russia was spending more and more time with her, her family was returning and she was happier than before. Although heartbroken she decided that it was for the best as reverting back could crumble the little foundation she now had.
One night she sat in her room, at her vanity cleaning her array of knives, some decoarative, some not. She found it somehow relaxing and was her way of unwinding. And then a soft knock alerted her and broke her little bit of peace.
"Who can that be...?" she muttered trying to rack her brain for anyone who would be up, let alone trying to bother her. Coming up with no names she furrowed her eyebrows before deciding it was best to let them in. If worst came to worst she had knives with her.
"Come in."
"Ah, Natalia, you're awake. For a moment I was afraid that you were alseep. Excuse my intrusion but I wanted to talk." her eyes widened at the sound of that voice, before she even saw him she knew who it was.
"Why are you here Ivan?" her voice was hard, much like steel and icy cold.
"Can't I pay a visit to my sister?" he smiled at her, sweetly, almost too sweetly, and she tried not to be swayed by his casual voice. It was still strange to her that Russia willingly stuck up conversation with her whenever he fancied. And more often than not she would find herself wanting to fling herself at him and hold him close.
"You normally only visit when it is a pressing matter. Other than that you never come by. So what is it now?" her sharp eyes narrowed as Russia took a step forward and toward her bed. She watched as he sat down and made himself comfortable on the large bed, he looked up at her before sighing.
"Won't you sit with me, Natalia?" he motioned to the space beside him and slowly she stepped away from the vanity and joined him. Still a little cautious of him, but mostly of herself and her emotions. "You know, it's been nice and peaceful since you've stopped chasing me. I was rather happy when you stopped, no, actually overjoyed is a better word." a pang gripped her heart as she listened, wondering if this was his way of rubbing salt into her open wounds. "But after sometime I didn't like all the peace anymore, I started to look at my doors, waiting to see if you would break through them again. In a strange way I think that I had missed you and the chaos."
"Is that so..?" she dropped her eyes as she felt the emotions rise. Her voice loud enough just for the both of them to hear.
"Nattie, I think, I might be in love with you too." he smiled and braced himself for a crushing hug as she leapt at him, like the kind she used to give when she still chased him. Instead it never came as she now sat there, still and stiff as wood, clutching at her nightgown.
"Stop it, just stop it." she whispered as the hot tears burned the corner of her eyes. She could only shut them tightly to keep them at bay, the last thing she needed was to look weak before him. She promised herself that she would only shed tears in front of their sister, because Ukraine was the only one who could wipe the tears away and comfort her.
"What?" the surprise in his voice was more than evident. Belarus jumped up from the bed and spun to face him. Her tears no longer contained and eyes narrowed accusing.
"Just stop lying to me! You didn't mean any of that!" her voice rose with each word, and before he had a chance to get a word in she cut him off. "You have NEVER once gone anywhere near me before, never have acted like you cared about what happened to me, you have never once done anything for me willing or not. And you want me to believe you?!" she yelled before dropping to her knees and burried her head into the sheets as she released the pent up anger and sadness.
"Yes, that was very true. But hear me out won't you? And I will leave if you so wish after you listen. Yes?" there was no response as her crying died down, but it wasn't like he was expecting her to reply anyways. "I've spent so much time running from you that I never thought about my own feelings. It was always about hiding and I never gave any time to think about myself. But after you stopped I had that time to think and decide. It was lonely, life wasn't the same and I didn't like how it felt without you. I was lonely without you Natalia."
Her tears and sobs had subsided somewhere in the middle of his speaking and she had sat there listening and clinging to every word. She slowly lifted her head from the damp sheets and looked at him, there was no anger or hostility, but there wasn't any acknowledgement or love either. Actually there really weren't any obvious emotions in them at all. Her eyes were still teary and were red and puffy, probably unattractive to anyone else, but Russia loved her all the same. Reaching out he brushed away the stray tears and cupped her face, stroking her cheek. All the while smiling affectionately.
Leaning forward he placed a soft, chaste kiss on the pale pink lips before pulling back. She didn't move away or made an attempt to leave, but she still said nothing. Which put him slightly on edge, she could still reject everything he had said and refuse to acknowledge his impromptu confession.
Finally speaking up she looked him dead in the eyes and a smile broke out on her face. Effectly relieving any thoughts of a negative reaction. "Ivan. I've loved you and chased after you for so long, but I'd thought I would never see the day you said you loved me. And if this is dream I would never want to wake up."
He smiled again and once more leans in for a kiss, and this time it was reciprocated fully. When they parted they had somehow ended up laying down on bed. Neither said anything as they just laid there, Belarus snuggled comfortably in his arms. As she started to drift off he decided that it would be best if he allowed her to sleep. He attempted to move away but she only tightened her hold and pulled him closer.
"Please don't leave me." she whispered sleepily, obviously fighting the sleep to stay conscious. "Please."
He smiled. This wasn't something that he was willing to fighter her over, or deny. And there was no reason for him to leave so soon.
"I won't." he threw his arm over her again and she snuggled close to him as he pulled the blanket over them.
"I promise."
A/N: Well what do you guys think? Yes they are very much out of character I do know that. And I kind rushed it at the end I know, it's because I've been working on this for like a while now and wanted it up and done with. Well at least it's all done and posted now.
Love,
Dragon
