"It's Independence Day. You know what that means, beautiful?" Buck asked eagerly, his mustache curving upwards as he smiled.

"Si. It's America's anniversary of freedom. I may be from Mexico, senor, but that doesn't mean I'm not aware of your happenings."

Buck caught her hand as she reached to fill a mug. "Didn't say you were, senorita, but what I was gonna say is it's a great chance for fireworks."

She withdrew her hand from his. "I believe I would rather spend it celebrating my independence from men with poor manners." Her declaration stung him. Inez filled the mug and sashayed away.
