City of Twisted Fates

Prologue

Hate and Glee were two mortal men from a time when there was nothing but mortal men. They were the best of friends until the day powerful women named Eve came to their village. Both friends lusted after the beautiful Eve and their friendship started to crumble.

When it appeared to Glee that Hate was winning Eve's affections he framed his friend and got him locked up. Eve, seemingly oblivious to this unjust act became very close to Glee and together they had a daughter.

Hate came back and for years the friends tried to kill each other. After nearly ten years of constant fighting Eve decided enough was enough. She used her magical powers to capture and restrain the old friends and brought them to her home. It was then that she revealed to the mortal friends she was actually a very powerful witch, capable of controlling all levels of magic.

She told Hate she would grant him power over the fire level if he agreed to guard the Netherworld and take care of the souls that had the misfortune of resting there. She said he would also be the god of this realm and all hesitation left his face. She touched her hands around his face a murmured a few words in her ancient language. She then kissed his new red forehead and said 'goodbye my love' and with a puff of smoke, he was gone.

Glee, who had watched his friend become a god, remained silent. Eve clapped her hands and turned to face Glee.

"Glee, my favourite friend", she said, gently stroking his cheek. Glee told her that he loved her and he would rather be with her than be a god. She laughed and said that was exactly why she had chosen him. Glee appeared confused so she told him how the world was filled with good and evil and that souls were no different. She explained that after something died the earth judged its soul and if it was determined evil it was sent to the Netherworld and if it was determined good it went to Haven.

Unfortunately, the souls were just piling up now and with no clear leader they couldn't reach peace and dissipate to feed the earth. Glee accepted that these other realms needed a leader, but he didn't want to leave Eve. She laughed and kissed his face. As Eve pulled back Glee started to glow a brilliant white before he disappeared.

Eve laughed again, like a tinkling of bells and clapped her hands in excitement. Part one was complete.
