This is my first rk fic, and i'm not quite sure how it's going to turn out yet, but i hope you'll enjoy it!

"I got another challenge today." Yahiko sighed as he walked through the door. He gave Tsubame a quick hug, then started down the hall to their room. He hoped, so dearly, that she wouldn't inquire into who the challenge was from.

"When do you eave?" She asked. Yahiko breathed out, relieved. He was off the hook… for now. He poked his head back through the door to look at his beautiful wife.

"Tomorrow." He told her. "It was short notice, but it can't be helped." She looked a bit disappointed, but understood.

"I don't mind." She told him. "As long as you'll be mine tonight." She said it, then blushed. They'd been married for about two years, but she was still just as shy as she'd been when he first met her. He smiled, and took her small hands in his own sword callused ones.

"I will." He promised. The fiery young ten-year-old that Kenshin and Kaoru had pulled off the streets was still very much alive within him, but somewhere in the span of his time with them, he'd truly become a young man. Gone was the annoying brat, (Though he still lurked somewhere under the surface.) and in it's place was a strong samurai. A respectful gentleness had replaced the crass boldness. This was the man Tsubame had fallen in love with.

The next morning, Yahiko rose early. Not wishing to wake his sleeping bride, he quietly kissed her forehead, and said goodbye. He dressed, then slipped out of the house, and on his way.

As he walked down the road, he pondered what he should do about his predicament. On the one hand, his country was being threatened, and death was imminent. Normally he wouldn't worry about stopping the offender, but this was different. For the first time since he'd received the challenge, he allowed himself to cry. It felt like biting the hand that had fed him, but he had no choice. They'd taken him in, and now he must kill their son. His target was Himura Kenji.
