Welcome Reader,

This story was written and inspired by the Hunger Games song, The Hanging Tree. Also I'm using some things from the recent chapter of Fairy Tail manga to make it a bit interesting. So enjoy!

Are you, are you….

Coming to the tree.

Lucy Heartfilia clutched the note in her hand. A few minutes ago she read the note that Natsu had left her. I'm off to train with Happy, I'll be back in a year. Tears streamed down her face as she ran down the streets of Magnolia. Her heart felt so heavy that it might burst.

They strung up a man…

they say who murdered three.

All those memories that they shared, all the times they were together. Lucy couldn't keep herself from wondering if he'll be okay. They had just finished defeating Tartorus, their biggest adventure yet.

She just couldn't bear the thought of not seeing him.

Strange things did happen here.

No stranger would it be.

She picked up the pace, the wind around her whipping her face. She knew where she was going, it wasn't going to make her happier either. But she and Natsu shared a moment before the Tartorus incident at this place.

If we met at midnight

In the hanging tree.

Lucy slowed her running as she made it up a steep hill. Her eyes widen at the familiar sight. A dead tree that burdened no leaves stood at the top. It was there where she and Natsu had shared their first passionate kiss. Ironically the tree had a history of hanging murders and dark mages. But Lucy didn't care, Natsu dragged her out here anyway to the infamous dubbed Hanging Tree.

Are you, are you

Coming to the tree

Where the dead man called out

For his love to flee.

The story of the dead tree was two people were in love, one of them good and one of them bad. The bad one was to be hanged for all his crimes, told his lover, the good one, to leave him to be safe. Lucy thought this was so romantic at the time. Natsu didn't care, which resulted in a whack to the head.

Strange things did happen here

No stranger would it be

If we met at midnight

In the hanging tree.

Now here she was reminiscing of the past. Funny how when you miss someone, you tend to think about them a lot then when they're here. She thought. She remembered how Natsu started to tickled her, making her laugh hard. They rolled around in the grass and had the time of their lives.

Are you, are you

Coming to the tree

Where I told you to run,

So we'd both be free.

Lucy felt hot tears streaming down her face again. She leaned against the dead tree, feeling its bark cut through her skin. Her face brushed gently on the rough bark. Eyes closed, she tried to remember that magical moment in time after they had finally settled down.

"You're still trying to protect me aren't you?" she whispered.

"Yes," He answered. "Because that's what you and I do, protect each other."

After he'd said that, he pressed his lips against hers. The taste of cinnamon and the warmth of a flame danced on her lips. It felt good, oh so good.

Strange things did happen here.

No stranger would it be.

Lucy snapped out the memory and stared at the note in her hand. She had to go back and tell everybody. Drying her tears, she started her ascendant down the hilltop. Her mind set on one thing.

If we met at midnight,

In the hanging tree.

I miss you Natsu Dragneel….

This concludes our tale. I bid thee farewell for now.
