I sat there, waiting, for the car to hit me. Slowly it got closer and slowly I saw my life pass before my eyes.
I opened my eyes to an old, worn down hospital. Dying was a lot easier than staying alive, Looking around I saw my grandmother sleeping right next to me and seeing this must have been hell for her.
"Grandma..." I shook her gently. She slowly arose and looked at me with tears in her eyes.
"I thought I lost you Ruth dear."
"I'm fine grandma, Just a bump on my head" I was lying, my head was throbbing, and It felt like my legs were on fire.
"Thank god that man was there to call the police."
"What man grandma? I don't remember that..." I looked at her puzzled.
"He just came in to make sure you were well and walked out. He wouldn't give me a name but he said he was an old friend."
I thought for a minute, but no name came to mind. I was beginning to feel tired and I closed my eyes.
"She can leave as soon as she wakes up. She has made great improvements over the past couple of days." I opened my eyes to see a doctor standing there. He smiled at me and walked out of the room.
"Ruth ready to go?" I looked down and I was dressed and I felt great. I hopped off the bed and followed my grandmother out of the hospital. The weather was cold and gloomy. Winter was coming closer by the day.
"How long was I there for grandma?"
"A couple of weeks my dear."
As we walked to the old van I remembered about that man from before.
"Grandma, did that man ever come back?"
"He came two more times, but each time he came he would not tell me his name."
"How did he look like?" I asked.
"I'm sorry dear all I remember is how tall he was and that long trench coat he wore."
We finally got home and I walked to my room. I looked around and I started to remember everything that has happened in this room; all the sleepovers and all the fights. It was getting pretty dark and I needed all the energy I can get for school tomorrow. I slid under my covers, closed my eyes and drifted away.
I'm running down a hall away from something, something big and evil. I keep running but I can't get anywhere but the thing keeps getting closer. I see a door at the end of the hall, when I reach it I am back in my room. I walk to my bed and turn around there it was standing thereā¦
"Ruth! What's wrong?"
I look around to notice I am still in my bed. "What do you mean grandma?"
"You were screaming so I ran in here."
"Oh it's nothing grandma, just a bad dream."
"OK dear get some rest."
When she walked out I just sat there. Why did I scream? All I remember is that thing. Thinking about it makes me feel uneasy.
Morning came around and everything seemed normal. I was the only one awake. I threw on some sweats and a T-shirt and went to the kitchen quietly. I didn't feel like eating much so I took an apple, and left for my old, tan 1995 pathfinder. It had seen better days, but it still ran like it was bought yesterday.
