Lily was sitting on the front step of her house with Severus. As she looked into his eyes she saw a small glimmer of sadness in her best friend. "Severus Snape you tell me what is bothering you right now"

Severus looked alarmed at her change of tone for a moment, but soon stopped trying to hide his feelings. "Lily we getting old to quickly, I mean – we are already 25!"

"Severus twenty five isn't old." Lily replied, evidently not understanding his point.

"Lily, we've been best friends almost our entire lives, and yes twenty five is old if you don't have all your life with the ability to have ch-" but Severus didn't have the chance to finish his sentence. A red convertible had just pulled up into the drive way of Lily's house.

Lily forgetting Severus's sentence ran up to the car. "Jake! You're here."

A shiver ran down Severus's spine. Jake was a boy's name. Who was this guy Lily was so eager to see. And he had to come when he was just going to tell Lily he wanted her. Jealousy boiled up inside him.

As Jake walked out of his car Severus could see he had a rich look about him. Severus couldn't help but be reminded of James.

"Hey Lily" Jake looked over her shoulder. "And Severus, of course," Jake smiled at him.

How does he know me? And how dare he smile at me! He must be Lily's boyfriend. Why hasn't she told me about him? AHHHHHHHHHHH Severus screamed inside his head.

Lily looked oddly at Severus. It was then he realized he hadn't said hello back. I must look really stupid right now. "Well carry on with your talking then, don't mind me" Severus replied coldly.

Jake turned to Lily. He whispered so Severus could barely hear him. "I don't think he remembers me."

"No," replied Lily, sounding a little lost. "I'm sorry; he's never acted this way before."

"Lily never mind, I brought you a gift, here open it," he said as he handed it to her.

A gift! He bought her a gift! No! I hope she hates it. It's probably really expensive

"Wow Jake. What a nice ring. Thanks," said Lily, giving Jake a quick kiss on the cheek.

"Well I'd better go now Lily, I still have to visit your sister."

"Bye then, Jake"

"Bye Lily"

Lily watched as Jake drove away before turning to Severus. She waited for him to speak.

"Who the hell is he? Why is he so important you can't even wait for me to finish my sentence? Why?" Severus yelled at Lily.

For a moment Lily just stood there, shocked. Then she looked angry. "For your information, he is my cousin, and I haven't seen him in three years. I'm sorry if you don't remember him but he was at the family reunion. Why were you so cold to him anyway?"

Severus looked down at the ground before replying. "I thought he was your boyfriend."

"Oh" was all Lily could say. She came and sat beside Severus, putting her arm around him. It took Severus a moment to realize that she was crying.

"Lily what's wrong? Please tell me."

"Severus I love you. I love, you. No one else. Don't be mad at me. Not because I love. Don't be mad that I love you-"

"Lily stop rambling nonsense. I am not mad at you. How could I be? I love you to Lily, That's what I was going to tell you earlier. I was going to say this- Lily, we've been best friends almost our entire lives, and yes twenty five is old if you don't have all your life with the ability to have children. And Lily I love you and I am beginning to feel hopeless that we'll ever have a relationship together." Severus paused. "Lily I love you, and nothings ever going to change that."

"Oh Severus!" Lily cried before firmly placing herself in his arms and kissing him.
