"Hey Misty, happy birthday!" Misty smiled at the voice from the other end of the phone.
"Thank you Tracy, are you going to come over today and help me bake my cake? Daisy and Lily are planning to make it, but they will end up burning the gym down!" Tracy chuckled. It was a special day for Misty and everyone was going to her house for her birthday party. Everyone except Brock and Ash. They were at the Hoenn Region but Ash had promised to video phone her. Tracy knew that was going to be the highlight of the day, since Misty still had a crush on Ash. She was going to wait by the phone all day if she had to.
It was about noon when Tracy got to the gym. Professor Oak had told him that he will join them shortly and Ms. Ketchum was putting the last touch on Misty's birthday dress. He found Misty sitting by the phone. She looked a bit sad.
"I don't get it Tracy, I thought they would call by now." Misty said as she hugged a couch pillow.
"Maybe they are too far away from the Pokémon center and won't call until later when everyone else is here." Tracy tried to reassure her. It seemed to work a bit. Misty smiled and looked at Tracy, determined. "Come on! Let's go bake the most awesome cake in the world!"
In Hoenn….
Ash, Brock, May and Max had just arrived to the Pokémon center in Lilycove City. May was going off about how much shopping she was going to do and Max wanted to see the Master Contest Hall. Ash was, well, he was heading straight to the food court.
"Wait Ash!" Brock said as he set his backpack down next to the video phone. "Aren't you going to call Misty?" Ash looked at Brock and waved him off.
"Brock I'm hungry right now, I'll call her when I'm full and Pikachu is refreshed." Ash said as he walked away with May and Max. Brock frowned. He knew Ash would call her but it was strange he didn't jump to the phone right away. Did Ash not like Misty anymore? Brock didn't think much of it and began to type in Misty's number.
In Cerulean City…..
"Tracy I don't think the cake is supposed to lean that way…" Misty said as she looked at the mess they made. This was their 3rd attempt at baking a cake and so far, it was unsuccessful. At that moment the phone rang. Misty ran to the phone and fixed her hair a bit before she answered. Brocks face appeared on the screen.
"Happy Birthday Misty!"
"Hi Brock! ...Where is Ash?" She asked as she looked behind the spikey haired Teen. Broke sweat dropped and scratched his head.
"He's at the food court, we just got here and he's exhausted. Maybe he'll call you later." he reassured. Misty smiled faintly and then began to have a long cheerful conversation with Brock for an hour. Before Brock disconnected he assured Misty Ash would call her soon.
Her party had gone great! Ms. Ketchum had made Misty a beautiful light blue dress that was the envy of her sisters, Professor Oak had given her an Eevee and a Water stone, Gary was a total gentlemen to her and had gave her a beautiful horsea necklace, and Tracy made a sketch of her with her Pokémon. The food were all great tasting except for the carrot cake Duplica had made her. But it was in a better shape than the cake she and Tracy made. Everyone was leaving except Ms. Ketchum, Professor Oak and Tracy. They were all watching Misty sit next to the phone.
"I'm sure my Ash had just forgotten and will call her tomorrow morning." Ms. Ketchum tried to reassure them.
"It is not like Ash to forget these kind of things, especially if it is Misty." Professor Oak said as he put his arm on Ms. Ketchum's shoulder. They both said goodbye to Misty and told Tracy they will wait for him outside. Tracy stared at the sadden girl, not knowing what to do. He felt angry at the boy for making Misty so sad on her birthday.
"Maybe he just forgot." Misty's voice sounded small and empty. Tracy felt his heart squeeze for her. Damn you Ash.
"You should go to bed." That was all he could offer to the girl. She nodded. She looked so small in the dark room. He picked her up in his arms and carried her to bed. Misty grabbed her Eevee and buried her face in its fur. Tracy tucked her in and quietly walked out.
Brock had just finished washing the dinner dishes and was about to get changed to go to sleep when the video phone rang. It was Tracy.
"Hey Tracy, it's pretty late for you to call isn't it?" Brock said jokingly. Tracy did not laugh. This was serious.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
"What's wrong? Ash is what's wrong! He never called Misty! She spent most of the day sitting next to the phone and he didn't call! I had to tuck her in Brock, like if she was a child! She cried for Ohho's sake!"
"Now calm down, I'm sure Ash didn't mean to hurt her like that, we had a long day walking around the city. I'm sure he just forgot." Brock knew it was a lie. Misty was Ash's best friend, he would never forget something like this…But Ash was changing, maybe it did flew over his head.
"I hope you're right Brock." Tracy said and then hanged up. He didn't understand why he felt so angry and sad for Misty. He looked back at the sketch he had made of her when she wasn't looking, and closed the gym doors behind him.
"Hey this is Ash! I cannot be reached right now. Leave a message and I'll call you back! Beep!"
"Hey Ash, It's me Misty. I was just wondering if you would call me sometime. You promised on my Birthday to call me but it's been a month and you haven't called. I'm sure you are pretty busy. Anyways I hope you are doing great and say hi to everyone for me! …I miss you."
"And I am done! There you guys have it, my 2nd Fanfic. I know it's a bit sad but come on, Ash will eventually forget everyone on his way to success. He hasn't gone back for charizard for Pete's sake and he has a mega evolution! A sequel will be made to this so don't kill me yet!"
