Things Parents Lie About

'The classic picking-up-from-school'

"Daddy, what time are you going to pick me up from school today?" A ten year old Audrey Waldorf-Bass asked, big brown inquisitive eyes staring up at her father.

"3:05 sharp, sweetheart,"

"No."

"No?" Chuck stared down at his daughter in confusion, school usually finished around that time, didn't it?

"No. I have a piano lesson today, daddy. I can't believe you forgot!" With an outraged stomp and a deepening pout, Audrey stormed out of the door.

"She's a lot of trouble isn't she?" His wife said, making her way down the stairs with a familiar bounce in her step and smirk on her face.

"She's just like her mother," He walked over to help her down the last two steps, not that she needed it. Encircling her in his arms and kissing her lightly he continued, "as I'm sure this one will be."

Chuck grasped her hand gently and rubbed her very pregnant belly with it.

"I hope so, we don't need another baby Bass around here," Blair was referring to Donald, their son. He was almost three years old and the spitting image of Chuck, as well as being much like him in other ways. Donald had become quite the charmer, with dashing good looks and confidence everyone wanted to be his friend, including a mass of girls.

"You know I could pick her up, save you the trouble."

"The whole reason I took today off was to shower my beautiful wife with love, cater to her every need and relieve her of all the stress, it's not good for the baby you know."

"I know. Now what was it you said about catering to my needs?" With that Chuck picked his wife up and carried her up the stairs, into the master bedroom.

4:05

Ring ring.

"Daddy, where are you? You said you'd be here."

"Uh, sorry sweetie I'll be there in two minutes, literally two minutes, I just got a bit caught up," Chuck explained while his wife was kissing his neck affectionately, to which prompted Audrey to hang up.

"Blair, I only have two minutes, I need to get Audrey."

"Two minutes is all I need, Bass."

He never could say no to her.

Twenty minutes later he was at Constance ready to pick his daughter up, a daughter who he dreaded would be mad, but quite surpirisingly was sitting on a bench with a huge smile on her face talking to Brandon Camden the son of Georgina Sparks. Even if the kid had been taken away from her at birth, he was still her spawn.

"Hey sweetie, sorry I'm late," Chuck's eyes wondered over the situation and he was not happy about the short distance between Brandon and Audrey.

"It's okay daddy, but there is something you can do to make up for it."

"What is it?" He suddenly became even warier than he had been, if it was even possible.

"Can Brandon come to dinner, it would be the least you could do considering you left me here alone for half an hour."

He never could say no to her either.
