A/N:
Disclaimer: CSI is not mine, blah blah… I'm not the literary genius who conjured up the characters…etcetera…
Second published work here, first you are actually seeing, and first CSI Fanfic for me. Time frame is post Grave Danger and pre Living Doll, because I like that season better, and Sara is there. This is subject to change, and is merely a teaser and motivator to force me to continue it. Have fun…
A/N, END
The night was sticky, as if it knew what was happening just miles away from the desert and was attempting to smother it. The cicadas screeched as a tall boy haphazardly made his way down a small hill, disturbing the desert night-life. He walked toward a pair of headlights that looked like suspended spheres floating in the darkness of the scenery. The boy trudged and scuffled through the desert brush, not caring. When he had finally arrived, a sharp voice called spoke:
"Have you got the money?"
The voice's face couldn't be seen as he was standing in front of the vehicle and the light only illuminated his outline. A small, red ember shone as the man flit off a piece of ash from the cigarette that he held between his fingers. He did not bring it to his lips, as most would do, but kept it at his side.
The reckless boy giggled in an adolescent air and said, "Yeah."
He laughed again.
"'Have you got the money?'! Geez, it's just like Jake said it'd be like!"
He began to laugh hysterically, which the man thought highly aggravating, and noted how nervous the boy was.
"Shut up," the man ordered bluntly. The boy immediately quieted, and noticed a small twinge of an accent in the man's voice, but couldn't adeptly identify it.
"Hand it over."
He extended his hand and beckoned, and the boy eagerly handed him a stack of bills, with an anxious air in every step he took towards him. The man shoved a bundle into the boy's arms and swiftly turned back to his car, shouting back at the boy to keep his mouth shut. Satisfied, the boy began to run back from where he came, his mind now milling over the new opportunities now available to him.
