A/N: Who wants some Marsan love? I do! I have another story brewing, but I had to write this one before I lost it. So let me know what you think, okay?

Disclaimer: Not Mine

Dedication: My E-mail buddy for her loyal reading :]

Susan Lewis stood grounded in her spot, she couldn't move, part of her was screaming run and the other was telling her to turn around, forget it, take care of the patient. Her feet felt like boulders, holding her where she stood on Cook County General's tiled emergency room floor.

"Dr. Lewis... Dr. Lewis." Her patient repeated her name several times, but it was all like a woosh of a wind to Susan, her clipboard slipped from her hand and clattered on the floor and before she knew it, she was running, sprinting through the ER and out into the chilly spring air. She saw Carter standing dumbfounded with a basketball, like he was trying to process something that was so far beyond him. Susan knew though and perhaps she was the only one. This was the end and she couldn't let it happen like last time. There would be no do overs. No trains. No phone calls. No letters. It was ending and she had to give it a proper closing.

"MARK!" She yelled as loud as she could, her voice thick and tears streaming down her face. Mark paused at the door to his Astro and turned to look at her, "A look, that's all I get?"

"Susan.." Mark whispered.

"Mark." She said softly as her shoulders shook, Mark glanced down at his shoes and then up at Susan, wrapping a hand around the base of her skull, he pulled her close, resting her head against his shoulder, he kissed her temple.

"I'm going to miss you." Mark whispered, echoing the words that he had said so long ago, when it was her leaving and their future was uncertain.

"I love you Mark." Susan whispered, it was the only words she could think of and even that didn't adequatley sum up her feelings.

"I love you too Susan, so much." Mark whispered.

"Fate's a bitch." Susan said softly and Mark chuckled, wiping the tears from her eyes.

"It's been a good year Suz, it's been a good lifetime. I never regret one second I spent with you." Mark promised her.

"Me either." Susan promised and Mark tipped his head. He kissed her lightly, as light as he had that day on the platform, but it held more emotion, a deeper sense of finality and both stretched it out as long as they could. People could see them, hospital staff, but it wasn't important, there was no conductor yelling at them to stop, no one pulling Susan onto a train. This was fate, seperating two best friends, for eternity.

Mark pulled away first, he rested his forehead on hers, taking shallow breaths, "I love you Susan."

"I love you too Mark." Susan whispered and with that, Mark let her go and rounded his vehicle, he slid in without a word, turning on the ignition and pulling out of the parking space, driving off into the night.

Susan stood, watching him drive down the road, she saw his turn signal turn on and he headed towards his town house. Susan's knees shook and she fought the urge to fall to the ground and sob. There was an overwhelming sense of sadness, but her chest felt lighter, like she could breathe, they had shared their final goodbye, one that summed everything up in three simple words.

I love you.

A/N: I know it's short, but I HAD to write it cause it was sitting there on my chest like an elephant. So hopefully it was satisfying. Let me know by REVIEWING!
