Hello! This is my first story on here. Before you start reading let me warn you, this is has Book 3 spoilers. I am warning you now. This is your last chance to turn back. Still here? Good. Hope you all enjoy!

Rollan was lying on his bed as Essix was off who knows where. It was the middle of the night and Rollan just couldn't sleep. It wasn't from Conor's monster snoring, but from everything that was on his mind. Well, one thing that was on his mind. Meilin's father had died at Dinesh's Temple just a few days ago. Rollan never had a father or any parent for a matter of fact, but he was pretty sure that it would just be horrible to loose one in such a way. Jaws of a crocodile crushing the one's you care about right in front of your eyes, it just sounded horrible. What really shocked Rollan was how much it effected Meilin. It seemed as if her world had just collapsed on her.

Rollan gave up on trying to sleep and decided to walk around on deck. As Rollan made his way for the deck, he kept an eye out for Essix. He didn't want to mistake her for an attacker if she all the sudden came out of nowhere right at him. A few times he thought he saw her in the shadows, but ended up just being some brooms or randomly placed hats. Once it was a Lumeo. What was that otter doing out at this time?

When he made it to the deck he thought he heard someone crying. At first he just dismissed it thinking it was just his mind playing tricks on him, but has he kept on progressing the noise got louder. As Rollan fallowed the crying to the front of the boat, he saw who it was. A zhongese girl with black hair.

Meilin.

Rollan took another step towards her and she turned around. When she realized who it was, she fiercely tried to wipe the tears away. "Rollan! I didn't know…did I wake you? I'm sorry, I just…"

"Meilin, you don't need to apologize. I was down in mine and Conor's room, there is no way you could have woken me up. I just couldn't sleep so I decided to come on deck." Rollan quickly said. She turned her head, probably hoping he wouldn't notice the tears on her face, but the way she turned didn't really help since it made the moon shine right on them. He took a few more steps towards her and then said, "Meilin, you have every right to cry. You lost your father to The Devourer. I would be crying too if it had happen to any of my family…" He paused for a second before adding, "I think."

"You think?" Meilin questioned in a quiet voice. She still didn't look up at him.

"I never had a family, remember? I was a street orphan." Rollan responded. She just nodded as she turned around to look at the ocean. It was obvious she didn't want to cry around him, but Rollan could see that she needed comfort. She needed a shoulder to cry on, and Rollan was going to be that shoulder.

Rollan walked up to Meilin and grabbed one of her hands. She turned around to look at him and he grabbed her other hand. "It's alright to cry Meilin, I won't judge you." And with that she leaned on him and cried. Rollan embraced her whispering comforting words in her ear. He didn't say everything was going to be alright, he just said that revenge will be served and he promised to make it true.
