Let's take it that New Moon ended after chapter 23 so Edward never asked Bella to marry him in the book and she never had her epiphany and the Cullen's don't vote on whether they want her or not.
BPOV
The floor seemed to be shaking as I ran to find him. Nothing seemed to work. I tried to run faster but my legs gave out and I fell to the floor. "EDWARD" I screamed but he kept walking away. "EDWARD, you can't do this to me, not again".
"You're no good for me Bella"
I fell to the floor. Not again. He can't do this to me again.
"Just leave me Bella"
I woke up with a jolt and felt to stone cold arms around me. I felt tears pouring down my face.
"Bella, sweetheart, what's wrong?" I could hear the concern in his voice. He turned me around so I was cuddled against his stone chest. It felt like forever since we had been like this. I suppose, in a way, it had. When he left time just seemed to stop. I lost track of days, weeks, even months.
I felt his cool lips press against my hair. "Please Bella, tell me what's wrong I can't bear to see you so upset" the pain was evident in his voice.
"I had a dream, that's all" I didn't need his vision to see that his face showed his pain, he knew I was lying and he kissed away my tears.
"In this dream, I-I left you again didn't I?" I knew that if he could, he'd be crying.
"I'm sorry Edward, I'm so sorry" I felt the tears begin to fall again and, as before, he kissed them away.
"You have nothing to be sorry for, angel. It's my fault that you're in this pain and I will do whatever it takes to make it better for you, even if it takes a thousand years" the conviction was strong in his voice.
"It's not your fault Edward; you were only doing what you saw fit and I cannot blame you for that. It's my fault with my stupid dreams". He bent down and kissed me.
"What will it take for you to see that I will never leave you again? I am far too selfish to let you go. I love you too much to ever be away from you. I need you by my side for the rest of forever"
"I know that you won't ever leave me Edward, I know that and I love you to, so much that it hurts. But still you refuse to make me like you. You say that you want me forever but you won't change me for fear of my soul." I felt him kiss me softly as he whispered in my ear: "I will change you Bella 'I cannot live without my life! I cannot live without my soul', I will change you soon, and I promise you" my nearly fell out of my chest as he said those words, my Edward, my precious Edward wanted me forever.
"Time for the human to sleep I think" he said kissing my forehead one last time.
"And you'll be here when I wake up?" as much as I know he loved me and wouldn't leave me, I couldn't shake the feeling in my head the told me that he didn't want me but somehow, as I snuggled further in to him and breathed in his scent, that voice disappeared.
"I promise Bella. I love you. I'll make the pain go away, I promise"
"I love you Edward, forever"
"Forever and a day" he agreed. And with that, I fell in to a dreamless sleep.
