Summary: He is her home; it was a truth she felt deep in her heart.

"Home is where the heart is."

Gaius Plinius Secundus/Pliny the Elder

He stood leaning against the tree; his arms were tucked into his red sleeves. The golden eyes she so loved were closed, but they opened quickly when he realized she was walking toward him. His golden eyes lit up as he pushed away from the tree trunk.

"You're back," he said softly, happily, as if they hadn't fought mere days before over the decision to let her leave. Kagome smiled and nodded. She moved to shoulder the fat, yellow backpack higher up her shoulder, but Inuyasha intercepted her. He took the yellow strap from her hand and swung it over his shoulder.

'I'm home,' Kagome silently said the words that she felt deep in her heart. He kept eye contact with her for a moment. The tenderness in his eyes, she knew, was echoed in hers. Abruptly, he seemed to realize that a moment was passing between them and jerked his eyes away from her. He huffed, embarrassed by the softness of his feelings for her.

"Keh! Took you long enough!" He barked half-heartedly as he turned to walk back toward the village. Kagome smiled softly at the slight blush he was trying to hide.

"Sorry," she apologized half-heartedly as she fell into step beside him. She looked at him for a moment before stepping closer and looping her arm around his. He didn't say a word, but he did tighten his arm around hers. She smiled softly and laid her head on his shoulder.
