It is said that history is written by the victors. What is not spoken of is the fact that history is written in blood and the sound of deathcries mark the turning of its pages.
Soon it will be dawn. Time for me to make history by destroying the Northern Water Tribe and the ability of all waterbenders to draw power from the moon. Then the name of Zhao will be known forever in not just the tomes of history but in a legend that will stretch as high as the heavens.
I am sure if he knew what I was planning that old fool Iroh would try and talk me out of it. In his dotage he has become blind to the fact that boldness and wielding the power of the fire granted to us by the sun is what has made we firebenders and the Fire Nation the mightiest people in the world.
Let Iroh prattle on about "balance" until he falls over dead into his precious tea. History shows that the Fire Nation literally burned the Air Nomads until nothing was left of them but a few words in the history books. The Water Tribe shall soon join them. For like fire history is ever burning and all-consuming.
Perhaps when the war is over I will pen my own account of this glorious day. Better that I do it than some self-important academic. Such men may know a great deal about the names and dates of history but they don't truly understand history. True history is made with one's own hands. You take the blood you write history with from your foes and in doing so make not only yourself great but give some small bit of meaning to their lives.
Be it as author or crimson ink we all have our place in history.
For now I must put these musings aside. Dawn will soon be here. It is almost time to make some history.
