I don't own Hardy boys. I don't make money from this story.
Thankful for his foresight Frank logged into the cell phone company's website. Following the links he quickly tracked his brother using the GPS in his cell phone. Noting the address he rushed from the office to once more ride to Joe's rescue.
Nearing downtown he was surprised by the crowds of pedestrians. Was there a parade he'd forgotten about? The crowds were so thick they were spilling into the street. Giving up Frank parked his car and headed for Joe's location on foot. It took longer than it should have, thanks to the crowds, but finally he reached his brother.
"Joe you're alright!" Frank exclaimed in surprise. For standing at the edge of the crowd stood his brother watching something in the street.
"Frank, what are you doing here?" Joe asked. He only spared a quick glance towards his brother before returning his attention to the scene in front of him.
"What am I doing here? What are you doing here?" Frank snapped. "You were only going to the bank."
"Oh I did that," Joe absently responded.
"And?"
Joe replayed the short conversation. "Oh, well I got distracted. Sorry about that."
"You're sorry? Joe I heard a gunshot and a woman scream. I thought something had happened to you!" Frank was getting angry now.
"Huh? How did you hear that?"
Frank rolled his eyes. "Your phone."
"I dropped it earlier."
"I know," Frank said. "I heard that too, right after the gunshot."
"I'm sorry Frank. I must have dialed the phone accidentally, but I'm not hurt. Nobody is." Joe tried his best to look contrite. He really was sorry to have worried his brother for nothing.
"Nobody's hurt? But the gunshot..."
"Oh that. Yeah they're filming this tv movie, that's what distracted me. It's really kind of dumb but I could see it happening too."
"What?"
"The movie premise. See there's this woman, kind of the town busy body I guess. She's always sticking her nose into what other people are doing, telling them what they're doing wrong and how they should do it."
"It?"
"Yeah, whatever it is. I mean like telling mothers how to treat their kids even though she doesn't have any, or telling the police how to investigate a crime, doctors how to treat their patients. You name it and she knows something about it. So one day..."
"Let me guess, somebody guns her down?" Frank interrupted.
"How'd you know?"
"It was kind of obvious. You're right it is a dumb premise but I could see it happening. So the rest of the movie is spent trying to figure out who killed her?"
"No, she gets killed towards the end of the movie. The rest of the movie is spent celebrating her demise," Joe grinned.
