Title: You Don't Have to Prove Anything
Word Count:
504
Pairing: Edward Kenway/Caroline Scott
Rating: T

AN: Yep, more Edward/Caroline. Heavily inspired by "Moon River" which I've been listening to quite a lot these past two weeks. Because I had to play it for band XD. Anyway, I thought it fitted Edward and Caroline's relationship.

Enjoy!

She was beautiful under the moonlight.

The light hits her body in the most perfect way, highlighting her beautiful curves. Her hair glistens in the light, wrapping her face in an ethereal glow. The shadows on her face accentuate her best features. He could watch her chest rise and fall, forever.

Edward was as breathless as the first time he met her.

His wife.

He had never thought, a merchant's girl with a shepherd's boy. It was a difficult arrangement, no doubt. Her father wasn't too happy his youngest daughter associated with a man of his class. He called him an embarrassment, a stain on their family name. When she announced their engagement, he threatened to disown her and any child born of their marriage.

It was a risk she was willing to take, for love.

And now they're here, in a run-down shack, with walls that rattled in the wind. Nights were either too cold or too hot and days weren't any better. Whatever food they prepared turned cold within a minute or two. His job didn't pay much. Sometimes, he returned home with nothing in his pockets. It wasn't the life she grew up with. A life filled with class, wealth and privilege.

She sacrificed a lot for him, her family, her wealth and reputation. Yet, she was able to tell him she loved him as much.

A rustling of sheets, his wife woke up. She noticed her husband was in distress.

"Edward?" she asked with worry, "Love, What's wrong?"

"Caroline, you could have any man you wanted," he said, "why choose me? A farm boy with no future, who can't get you a nice place or a life of quality."

She moved closer, her body inches away from his. She placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, "Your courage, your determination. You were brave enough to look out for Rose and you were determined to find me. Often causing a lot of mishaps, which led me to rescue you."

He smiled at the thought. Caroline had to save him more than once after their initial meeting. After the fifth time saving him, he asked her with she continued to be his guardian. She replied with a kiss. It was then when her father found out their relationship.

However, that wasn't enough to rouse him from his troubling thoughts.

"Courage and determination don't prove a good husband."

She cupped his face, "you don't have to prove anything to me."

And covered his lips with hers. Her lips were soft and tasted wonderful. She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling them closer. Edward could feel their hearts beating quickly on his chest. They broke apart, their breaths ragged and lips swollen. He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling them down to the mattress. His hand roamed those beautiful curves, familiar to his touch. He kissed her again, this time, hungry with need.

Yes, Edward could live with this.
