She was Natsu's girl.
Plain and simple. No ifs,ands,or buts about it.
And he was just her perverted stripping teammate. Her friend that she could count on while on a mission or even when their resting at the guild from a tiring job.
She didn't see him as anything more, in a romantic sense, he was invisible to her. Her main focus was his pyro rival that he brawled with every chance he got. There were moments he would go all out on the pink haired idiot out of jealousy but of course the dense slayer never noticed.
'Why him? Why did she fall for him, when he couldn't get the clue she was interested?'
So he thought she was.
Imagine his surprise when Natsu came into the guild from a week mission with the young take over girl, arm wrapped around her waist. "Yo minna! Lisanna and me are together!"
The guild was quiet for the longest in forever, not once has the guild ever been quiet. All through the guild members including that of Laxus Dreyar, had only one thought cross their minds, 'What bout Lucy?'
As if they had summoned her with just the thought of her, the guild doors opened to reveal the blonde celestial mage.
Looking around she took in the sight of the quiet guild, "Um, is everything alright?" No one spoke just waited for the unavoidable.
"Hey Luce! Everyone got quiet once I told them Lisanna and me were dating." Gray held his breath, no matter how he felt for the beautiful mage never would he want her to hurt, never would he choose her happiness second to his own.
"Bout time! I told you she would say yes if you took her on that mission to the resort!" Everyone's eyes widen at what came from the blond's mouth. "WHAT?!"
Gray sat in shock, all this time, all the knowing smiles, the hush whispers, and the walks they took alone. Nothing more than a misunderstanding amongst the whole guild.
Erza stood up from her chair, strawberry cake long forgotten, a rare sight to all. "Lucy, I thought you and Natsu were an item?" Questioned the red headed women. The entire guild was again reeling in shock hearing the blond and pink haired mages laughing with tears in their eyes arms clutching their stomachs.
"No way..." Panted Natsu between his laughter, "Luce has a thing for the ice princess."
The celestial mage stared with horror sketched across her face, "You idiot! You said you wouldn't tell anyone!" All eyes fell on the ice mage as he sat with a stunned expression eyes never leaving the blond as she had her hands wrapped around the fire dragon slayers neck. Lisanna panicking with hands flailing at her sides as the slayers face began to turn purple.
Bangs covering his eyes, Gray stood from his seat and silently made his way to the three mages. All this time wasted because he didn't want to mess up their friendship, all this time she would have been in his arms, all this time because he was afraid of the outcome of his question.
Wrapping his arms around her waist, he lifted her off the idiot slayer as Lisanna shook him from unconsciousness. In one fluid movement the ice wizard had Lucy facing him as he clashed his lips against hers.
The light of fairy tail stood frozen before her mind processed what was happening. All this time fearing he wasn't interested in her, all this time believing she never had a chance, all this time worrying what would become of their friendship if she spoke her feelings out loud wasted.
Wrapping her arms around the handsome mages neck, digging her fingers through his raven locks as she stood on tip toes to deepen the kiss, the entire guild erupted into cheers for both happy couples. Celebrating in Fairy Tail style barrels of beer were brought out, as both girls sat in their significant others laps.
Smiles adorn every members face, while watching Gray and Lucy smile and laughing, foreheads pressing against each other, eyes closed, arms wrapped around one another.
All this time, they finally had one another.
