What is a devil?
No one really knows for sure. Who can say that they've danced with the dark and have been able to come out unscathed, if they were even that lucky?
Some say that the devil does not exist. Some only believe that it is a name given to symbolize something that we cannot understand. Others believe that he had a physical form.
The third group is correct.
Different religions have different explanations for how he came into existence, but one look at him brushes away most of the myths.
He is beautiful.
He is more beautiful than a being could possibly be. He has been seen by many – and believed to be human.
Those that have crossed him know better.
The "man" is perfection personified. His features chiseled in all of the exquisiteness that belongs to the gods. Perhaps he was one, once.
One legend tells of how the devil used to belong to Heaven. He was Heaven's favorite – admired by all – wanted by all. Heaven loved him, be he did not love Heaven back. The place bored him.
Then one day he showed his true self. Proved that he wouldn't be like the rest of them and stand aside when something he didn't agree with took place. He took action.
And they forsook him.
Now he walks among the mortals, and like Heaven they cannot help but be drawn to him. He is aloof, but his charisma is infectious. It is impossible to walk by him and not take a second look.
He is the Great Deceiver. While he does not flaunt (he does not need to), he wears something that is not becoming of his personality. His attire misleads others to believe that he is something he is not.
Heaven realized what they had lost, and wants him back. Donning him in fine silk and sacred words, it is said that he is a holy man. If physical items are all one needs to be made holy, then they surly have succeeded.
But then he desecrates himself with smoke and spirits, returning to who he really is. His mouth, at the order of his position, can utter the words that can save a soul. But more often than not he is cursing the very ones who told him of his duties, or are the last words his adversaries ever hear.
The devil cannot be controlled.
He is walking through a city now with three other companions. Perhaps they are his accomplices – his partners in crime. Each is demons in their own right, but none can match him.
Even while forsaken, he still shines with the sparkle of the gold in "Paradise" – a beautiful object that is desired by all. But to reach out to touch it, one is scorched by the fire burning behind his molten gaze.
None may ever meet him and leave as they were before. One cannot forget divine temptation.
No one can escape the glimmer of his vivid, violet eyes.
Yeah… I got inspired to write this at 11:30 at night on my vacation. I was reading GTO, of all series, when it hit. So… I'm glad I was reading it so that I came across this idea. ::grins::
I hope you enjoyed this little one-shot of mine. It was fun to write.
Comments and criticisms are appreciated.
