A/N This little bit of free write came to me and I had to ship my favorite characters. This is my first fic in the Harry Potter fandom. AU in the fact that Sirius wasn't killed by Bella. He killed her. Other than that, follows canon.

Hermione tried to aviod looking across the table at him. It's just a little crush, she reminded herself. After all he is her best friend's godfather after all. Just because he is incredible, sinfully handsome and charming didn't give her the right to fall for him.

She let her glance drift to him and he caught her eye. She looked away, knowing anf feeling the blush that was spreading across her pale face. She left as soon as the table was cleared and moved away for the dancing. She knew that the party was in good cause. After all they won the war.

She slipped outside into the cool air and watched the world pass by her on the balcony. her thoughts drifted to him again. He had to kill his own flesh and blood just a week ago. Bellatrix may have been evil, but the same blood that ran through her veins also runs in his. She was deep in thought and didn't notice that someone snuck up behind her.

"Ah. Hermione. Why are you not inside dancing?" She turned to see Sirius had walked over to her.

"I am not a very good dancer." He smiled, bemused.

"Well. We will see. May I have this dance, Miss Granger?" Her face grew red but she nodded.

"We can not hear the music from here."

"We will manage." He held out a hand for her to take. She took his hand and rested her other on his shoulder. They began to waltz, him leading her in an unfamilar rhythm. She didn't reconize it but followed his lead for a few moments.

"Sirius, can you hear the music? I can't and I don't know this waltz." She looked up at him confused. He smiled and she caught a glimpse of something unusual in his blue grey eyes.

"I can hear it just fine. Maybe you need to get closer," with that he gently pulled her against his chest, cupping her face in his hand and resting her cheek over his sternum. He began to waltz with her pulled close to him again. She stayed there stiffly, confused for a few moments. She began to relax as she realised the unfamilar rhythm they were dancing to was his heartbeat. She listened to the 'music' for what she wished would be an eternity. And since it was custom that a pair dance until the music stopped, she didn't know when they would stop dancing.

He let her go briefly, just long enough to craddle her head in both hands and pul her in for a kiss. She gasped as his lips pressed to hers in a gentle, almost hestiant fashion. When he pulled away he held her against his chest again. His heart beat strong, if a little rapid, under her ear.

"Siruis, why did you kiss me?"

"I've wanted to for a while. Figured it's now or never. War teaches a man a few things. The biggest is to not waste chances. I love you Miss. Granger. Will you give me the honor of courting you?" She answered without hesitation.

"I would love that."
