"Beth." It was a simple statement. The simple name Beth. One sylable. Four characters. The second letter of the Hebrew alphabet.

So then why did it have so much weight?

Beth turned to look at L from the edge of the rooftop. The rain made her blonde hair go to a moppy brown, and made her black mascara and red lipstick run down her pale face.

"Ryuzaki."

They were no longer chained together. It was odd for both parties. The two were rather accustumed to waking up together, getting dressed together, even showering together. It was odd doing these things alone again.

Beth sighed and walked towards the now wet man. His hair was now in his face, his white shirt translucent. Months ago her gaze would've lingered, but the fact she'd seen him naked, it really didn't matter.

"Do you still think I'm Kira, Ryuzaki?" Beth asked, less out of curiousity and more out of reassurance.

"Our prime suspect at the moment is Light Yagami, Beth. You're still a suspect, but I feel that it's more likely that Light Yagami is Kira at this point."

Beth blinked slowly, nodding her head. L was so comfortable at this point. The two knew everything about each other. He'd seen her naked, he'd seen her cry, he'd seen her after a nightmare, and she'd seen the same from him. The two might as well have been a couple.

"Hey, L,"

"Yes?"

"I'm in love with you."

It was simple. It was as if she was telling him she was hungry, or that she felt like going on a walk. It wasn't something she wanted to make a big deal out of.

L nodded and "hmmm"ed. He put a finger to his lip. He seemed to be thinking.

"I think the feeling requited," L muttered.

And it was just the two of them. In that moment no one else existed in their lone little world. Her baby blue eyes met his gunpowder gray orbs. It was intense and bright, just as the sun and the moon. As if the two were on a wavelength no one else understood.

The sun and the moon. Yin and yang. Red oni and blue oni. Different sides of the same coin. The two felt as if no one else in the world ever would understand it. The two were so different on the outside. Beth was over emotional, neurotic, idealistic. L was cold, intelligent, analytical. But together the two knew each other.

And so, the sun met the moon.

"You're kind of like a brother to me," Beth said, fiddling with her cuticles.

L snorted, "That's rather innappropriate, given what we just confessed."

"Well, it's true. Why can't I feel both? It'd be stupid to deny certain feeling just because another exists."

L, again, nodded. He could get that. Love and hate were often portrayed to mix, why not love and a family-esque fondness?

And so, Beth hugged him.

There was a comfortable silence between the two as they were in each others arms. Both of them felt as safe as could be, snuggled up tightly. It reminded L of when he was a child and asked Quillish to read him a bed time story, or when he'd call the Wammy children and tell them stories of his latest accomplishments and explain as to why he had such bad hand writing. It made L smile.

"Les'go inside. 'M fuckin' cold." Beth finally said, letting go of the man. L nodded and opened the door for her.

Maybe L should've kissed her. But, no. He didn't have to. Neither of them had to do anything of the sort. There was no pressure on L or Beth to actually do anything, really. Just to love each other and take care of one another.

And that was love, the two supposed.
