He admired her from a distance.

She didn't even know he existed.

He was an outcast.

She was loved and admired by everyone.

He had no friends.

She would be friends with anyone that wanted to be her friend.

Maybe that's what made him love her so much. The simpleness of her. She was outgoing, loving, bright, cheerful, and most of all, just plain simple. She wasn't overly gaudy with playing dress-up every day before school and caking on the makeup. She wasn't anyone but her, what you saw was who she was. She wasn't fake and gossipy, nor did she want to be. He admired her for that.

Everyone admired her for that.

But beyond the exterior being that everyone saw, the happy go lucky, optimistic, bouncy girl, was something that he was sure only he could see. Past the fake smile that seemed to be plastered on her porcelain face. She was like the doll sitting on the shelf that everyone walked by and admired. She seemed perfect, but she wasn't. She was just like the rest of them, and she had feelings other than happiness too.

He was used to being alone so walking down the street on that cold dark night wasn't abnormal. It was his way of escaping from everything that he didn't want to be near. His home his family...

...his life.

When he ran into her though, he couldn't help but notice the tears under her emerald eyes as she cried. He couldn't help but sit down next to the girl he loved, the girl who didn't even know he existed and try his best to comfort her. He couldn't help but tell her that everything would be okay, and whatever was wrong would end up being all right.

Her sobs died down to a sniffle and her lips slightly curved upward. No one had ever been there to comfort her. She was the one doing the comforting. She was the one who had to give everyone advice on everything and hope to God that she could make it through her own life without everyone noticing that she wasn't as happy as she seemed.

All she wanted was for someone to notice that she would cry at night too. That she could feel something other then joy too.

She told him everything, and he listened without complaining. It was like they had been best friends forever.

She didn't even know his name.

When he acknowledged her and responded to her, she grinned even wider. Not her fake doll like grin, but a genuine grin that made him smile also. He hadn't smiled in a while.

When she told him she was sorry for taking up his time and that she probably should be heading back home now. He wanted to tell her he would be the happiest guy in the world if all his time was just her.

She asked for a name, and gave it to her. She giggled when he stuttered and his cheeks turned pink under the street's dim lamplight. She told him that she'd like to get to know him better, and the idea seemed great to him.

She walked off in the direction of her house, a slight bounce in her step. She always seemed to be bouncing. It was probably part of her happy demeanor.

He ran a hand through his indigo hair, that same small smile still on his lips.

Maybe life wasn't so bad after all.
