ANthis chapter is in Dreamkit's pov
Day Dreamer
Daykit lay in the nursery, staring out at the falling rain in her own little world, as usual. I wondered, not for the first time what she was looking at, or doing. She never seemed to want to play or go outside the nursery.
Firekit and Summerkit were both rolling around in the nest. Hopefully they wouldn't wake Sunsteam, as the young queen was always grumpy when the other kits woke her. She was going to have some of her own soon enough. Suddenly, Daykit gasped and sat up so quickly she bumped into Firekit.
"Hey, watch what you're doing, Day dreamer!" Firekit yowled when Daykit stepped on her tail. "You'll wake Sunstream!"
"Too late!" I muttered when I saw Sunstream groan and stir. Having no intention of being scolded, I ran from the nursery, ignoring the rain.
I padded to the medicine den to see Maplefur and his apprentice, Rainpaw. I loved it there, the smell of herbs clung to everything. I loved learning about herbs and, when the time came, I was going to be a medicine cat apprentice myself, even if Maplefur already had an apprentice.
"Hello, Dreamkit, I was wondering when you were going to show," Maplefur teased. He knew that I was going to turn up. I was there almost more than Rainpaw was. Even though she was great with herbs she would rather wander about in the forest, she reminded me a little of Daykit.
When I returned to the nursery I found that things were back to normal. Firekit and Summerkit were sleeping and Daykit as staring off into space, again. She was wet but I couldn't tell if it was with water or sweat. I was worried.
"Daykit, are you okay?" I asked.
She turned to me with glazed eyes. "ShadowClan are coming, Firestar, what should we do?" was her response. I was startled. The elders told stories about ShadowClan, WindClan, ThunderClan and RiverClan, but I never believed them; until now that is...
"I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me!" I heard Daykit's voice, but I was too lost in thought to listen. What if the Forest clans did exist...?
