Just Another Work Day
Hey guys! So I haven't written a fanfic in, like, FOREVER, so give me a break if it's a bit bad. Ok, if it's a lot bad.
I am a die hard Jacob fan, you know, one of those people who thinks Edward should be killed by James and then Bella and Jake hook up and have a blast. Whoopee!
This is just something that came to me as I was rereading New Moon for the umpteenth time. You know how Bella went to see Jacob work in his garage a lot, but it never mentions the details? So this is about one of those times. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the story. Oh, and its third person POV.
As soon as he heard the roaring of the ancient truck, he burst out of the garage door.
"Careful, you don't wan to run into a tree, Jake," Billy said to his enthusiastic son. But Jacob barely heard him.
"Bella!" he shouted, glad to see the pale, unstable girl. She grinned widely as she stumbled out of her truck.
"Jake!" she called back. Her mood drastically improved at the sight of her best friend. She hadn't seen him in, what? Two days? Well, whatever it was, it felt like a lifetime. Time seemed to stop with him around…
"What were you doing until I came and rudely interrupted?" Bella asked after he gave her his signature bear hug. She noticed his dark eyes twinkle in excitement before he whispered the expected answer.
"I was working on the motorcycles. They're almost done now, you know. Even though, I can't understand what a frail old lady would want to do with them." At the word old he winked at Bella. She smacked him upside the head (and ended up hurting her palm as she did so).
"Jacob Black! I am no old lady! I'm eighteen," she said hotly, even though the twinkle in his eyes and wide grin made the kitten-like anger in her subside. "I can't believe you think of me as old."
Jacob just chuckled to himself and took her hand, dragging her to his garage. Two half finished motorcycles leaned against the wall, and a rusty old Volkswagen Rabbit sat there, too. A mess of tools and dirty rags covered the concrete floor and a mini-fridge in the corner. Ahhhh…garage sweet garage…
Bella sat on the stool next to the motorcycles while Jacob worked, and they lapsed into a comfortable silence. Once in a while, Jacob would prop a question about Charlie, and Bella would ask him about school, but mostly they just sat there. For Jacob it was just another work day. For Bella it was a visit to a friend, an escape from her own world to his.
Three hours later, the motorcycles looked slightly improved, Bella looked satisfied, and Jacob exhausted. They went back into the cozy home and Jacob flopped down on the couch. Bella sat next to his feet.
"Thanks so much, Jake. You know, for everything," she said eventually. He looked at her thoughtfully.
"I do know," he said, mocking her slightly, "but I still don't understand why you prefer my company to your…other friends." By other friends, he obviously meant Mike, Jessica, and Angela, but he seemed to have a double meaning to his words. She ignored it and said ever so simply, "You're always happy. It radiates to me, too. You are funny, kind, fun…Jake, you're my best friend."
He grinned at her cliché words. He never thought he would hear that coming from her, but the genuine look in her eyes told him it was all completely true. He draped a casual arm around her shoulders, and she placed her head on his shoulder.
"Oh, Bella. What will I ever do with you?" he said sarcastically.
Billy rolled his wheelchair into the living room to find his son and his friend sitting on the couch, laughing and talking, forgetting all about the pile of homework they had each.
He better call Charlie.
Ok, so kind of random, I know, but it came out completely unexpected. I thought it would be different Oh, well. Review please!
