A/N: 1) A recent interaction on Shonda's Twitter: Yes, I is why that is not what is happening. RT NadMasGA Adoption is close to ur heart-don't u think having it in 2 eps is rushed?

2) So, this could either be interpreted as MerDer are not adopting, or they're just doing it some time next season. At the moment, I'm jumping the McAdoption ship and getting back on the McBaby one, and I can't wait any longer to write a story about my favorite character to be: McBaby. Here's how I think the finale might end:

One year later.

It had been a year, Derek thought to himself as he headed through the hospital. A year since Gary Clark had come to seek revenge for his wife's innocent death, since he'd come so close to dying, since Meredith had discovered and lost their firstborn, since he'd thought life couldn't get any worse than sitting at a desk doing paperwork all day.

As he walked across the catwalk, he tried very hard not to hear Mr. Clark's angered, hurt, vengeful voice, his own panicked voice, and his own gasping breaths as his blood spilled onto the floor below him. Most of all, he tried not to hear Meredith's hysterical voice begging him not to die.

Suddenly, just as Mr. Clark had done a year earlier, a voice called his name as he headed towards the chief's office. "Derek!" Meredith called. Derek turned. His wife was standing at the other end of the catwalk. She was beaming. There were tears in her eyes. And she was holding up...

A pregnancy test.

For a moment, Derek was too shocked to move or speak. And then, slowly, a huge smile spread across his face, and his vision blurred. And the next moment, he was running towards Meredith, and she was running towards him, and she was in his arms, and he was spinning her around while they laughed and laughed. Finally, he set her down and held her hands tightly.

"We're having a baby," he breathed, feeling ecstatic and incredulous and more ecstatic all at the same time.

"We're having a baby," Meredith replied, smiling gently at him. He smiled back at her, and then pulled her in for a kiss. They held each tightly, and then one of Derek's hands slowly traveled to rest on top of Meredith's still-flat stomach. She laid a hand over his, and together, in the spot where they had nearly been destroyed a year earlier, they held each other and their baby, thinking of all the good things to come.
