The End?

I shall ever regard him as the wisest man who I have even known.

The End?

Watson walked back into the room confused. Something felt different. Changed...altered even. The amount of hope circulating around his body overwhelmed him. The chair in the side looked less bulged when he glanced at it from his peripheral vision. Something was off...

He poured himself a quick drink and sat in his chair looking blankly at the ceiling. He sighed in resignation, he was doing his best to move on but the silence in his life was deafening.

No random explosions going off in the middle of the night.

No loud mutterings annoying him.

No noisy thunderous stomping in the apartment above.

No nothing.

But maybe he wasn't dead. He was the great Sherlock Holmes, he could not die. He was not invincible...but he was pretty close to it. Watson need something else, another hint that he wasn't dead.

He exhaled heavily and took another sip of his drink. He stared at the typewriter in front of him, his brain not instantly seeing what was in front of him. His eyes suddenly widened as he saw it. He choked on the drink, the alcohol burning his throat. He spluttered and coughed. "MARY! MARY!" He abruptly starting yelling.

She came running in anxiously. "What it is John?" She shouted breathlessly while standing next to him. His hands were shaking uncontrollably as optimism surged like an unblocked dam.

"That! Look at the last line!" John pointed like a mad man at the typewriter. His eyes wide with shock and flickering with hope.

"John, all it says is 'The End' with a question mark," Mary quickly murmured soothingly placing a hand on his shoulder, she gazed at him worriedly.

"Exactly Mary, Exactly!" John exclaimed excitedly, "I never ended it with a question mark...the question mark wasn't there when I left!" John cry out in euphoria, tears leaked out through his eyes.

He wiped them using his sleeves and quietly mumbled, "The question mark wasn't there." Mary gasped as she saw the blinding beautiful smile that was missing for the past weeks since Holmes death.

John got out of his chair and stared out the open window. He gazed at the area in front of him carefully and whispered with a small smile, "I know you're alive Holmes."

And just under the window Sherlock Holmes smiled and disappeared into thin air a moment after.
