Waking Effects

Ace figured it was fitting that Luffy would succeed where he had failed. It was only slightly embarrassing that Luffy's success came completely on accident and while he was still half asleep.

Luffy just had to have the habit of stretching himself awake, didn't he?

As was his habit, when Luffy first came up from dreamland, he stretched. His stretch had hit an unsuspecting Marco, knocking the perpetually laid-back man backwards into Izou. The cross-dressing man tripped backwards into his agile comrade, Haruta, who by instinct grabbed the biggest object within reach, which just happened to be Jozu. Lamentably, Jozu had been in the middle of demonstrating a punch to one of his subordinates. One badly aimed punch later, Whitebeard was sitting on the pile of wood scraps that had formerly been his throne.

Ace started to rummage around in each of his many pockets.

"Ace? Why are all the ossans lying on the floor? Is it a game?" chocolate eyes sparkled, "Can I play?"

The freckled boy ignored the questions from his younger brother, "Hey Luffy," Ace's thick fingers finally closed around what he was looking for. He pulled the object from a canvas pocket, "Smile."

Luffy grinned.

Ace snapped a picture.

The developed film had a happily grinning Luffy standing in the foreground and disoriented pirate commanders in the background.

The camera's flash went unnoticed by the famous commanders, stunned as they were, and Whitebeard himself was too busy mourning his favorite chair to spare attention for it.

Hours later, when Ace was pinning the photo up next to his bunk, he muttered to himself, "Figures Luffy would manage to knock Whitebeard on his ass without even meaning to."

I wrote this one recently, and while it is not my best, it is something I wanted to upload for the fact that I find it funny and I hope others do as well. A bit disjointed. I can find at least one area that I should edit in order to make the flow better. Any comments on characterization would be very welcome. I haven't ever written Ace's point of view before, and this is also my first attempt to keep Luffy in character, as seen in anime and manga.

Thank you for reading,
