In the shallow cove, hidden from the town above, the boy, dressed in the green of the fields, sat in his faded red sailboat. He stared at the vast ocean that stretched on for seemingly forever before him. Luckily, the seas were tranquil today, so the duo was safe from the horrendous storms that blinded sailors and tossed their boats like ragdolls across the sea. No, today, a rhythmic lullaby from the soft waves echoed throughout the cove as waves lapped up against the shore and the hollow boat. Soft, wispy clouds danced across the bright blue heavens and shattered into a thousand pieces. The sun, a giant lemon high above the land, shone brightly on the sapphire water, which in turn sparkled like diamonds in the brilliant light. Little seagulls playfully chased each other in the salty morning air. Bustling around with their average everyday lives, the villagers made the would- be quiet island hum welcomingly. But all that was behind the boy, in the back of his mind, as he scanned the horizon. To the east, the tall shadow of his destination loomed over them like a human over a disobedient animal. None of the other shadows around could compare in size. None seemed to puncture the sky like this one did. Even from miles away, the rumble of the massive volcanic isle could be felt, and the deity of the island, merely a speck of dust on the gargantuan shadow, could be seen trembling.
Then, as the lullaby halted and the waves changed direction, the boy knew it was time to head out on his journey. He raised his newly purchased sail and was off.
