Monsters in the dark

Disclaimer: Damnit! I didn't think Up Neopets!

Author's note: I put this in the poetry contest and it didn't win, but I thought it was too cute to just rot away in my computer's archives…
Oh, my Neopets user name is Natalilly, which might make this make a little more sense.

One night when we were sipping

Hot chocolate before bed

My sleepy little Ixi

Raised her pretty little head

"Please Lilly would you tell us..."

(She was ever so polite)

"How we could finally banish

The monsters in the night?"

"Yes tell us!" Said my Bori,

Whose name is Telliohn,

"How can we completely hide from

All the night time fears we've known?"

Now I was rather startled

But thought it for the best

That I quell their thoughts of monsters

And put their fears to rest

'What sort of monsters are there

That you so dearly fear?

Speak up each and everyone,

So I can clearly hear...'

First said plush Jujerra

The Ixi who spoke first

"Of all the scary things there are

There's two things I fear worst...

And that's creeping Meuka

His endless tummy growling

And the sound of unknown Ghost Lupe's

Mournful spooky howling..."

"And mine..." squeaked timid Telliohn

"And silly it might be...

Is Spider Grundo might come one night

And eat me up for tea!

Or in the darkened hours

I might turn my head

And instead of my stuffed Kiko

I'll Hug Jelly Chia instead!"

Ayahmera spoke up after that

(My blue Aisha fairy)

"Like my sisters 'fore me both said

There are TWO things I find scary..."

"And that's the unseen Shadow Usul

Who moves without a noise,

Or waking up to find out that

Pant Devil stole my toys!"

I then looked to Caeldre

Who was sitting so quietly

I wondered what my Acara's

Worst night time fear might be...

She looked down at her paws

Shook her yellow head

Then mustering up her courage

She turned to me and said

"I think that the two things

That give me the worst fright

Is the idea that Von Roo

Might drag me into the night...

Or nasty wicked Vira

Might hold her mirror so I see

That all the pets in Neopia

Are prettier then me..."

I hugged my little Neopets

And told them not to fear

'There's nothing in Neopia

That will hurt you while I'M here'

And with hearts so greatly lightened

I put them all to bed

I could see now in their faces

There was no longer any dread

But as I retired into my room,

Though their fears were all gone

I decided that it wouldn't hurt

To leave my night light on...
