Star light

She gazed up into the night sky and sighed wistfully. Always, she had to grant the wishes of others and to siphon off their energy in order to live, but not tonight. The boy had learned from an oracle that all she had to do was grant the right wish, and she would be given the greatest treasure of all.

Star bright

The child's sarcastic wit hit him hard. His love didn't love him. The child he wanted for his own hated him. His secret pet couldn't fill the void in his lonely heart. Maybe he should do as the boy suggested and make a wish. He pushed open the balcony doors and stepped out into the cool night air.

The first star I see tonight

She saw it, the first evening star. It was a cool pinprick of cold fire, too far to harm her, but close enough to hold enough mystical properties that millions of people the world over believed in it. She held her breath and listened to the wishes, hoping to hear the one the ghost child had said to wait for.

I wish I may, I wish I might,

He admired the nighttime serenity. He could understand the younger child's fascination for the stars. He spied the evening star and smiled. What could it hurt?

"Star light, star bright..."

Have the wish I wish tonight

That was the wish! Her senses called out to her. The ghost child had been right after all. The greatest treasure in the world was best shared by two.

She smiled.

"So you have wished it, so shall it be," she murmured, wrapping her slender arms around Vladimir Masters' neck and giving him his first kiss.
