The One Memory
Disclaimer, I don't own Harry Potter or anything related to it, I'm not making money from this. It all belongs to JKR.
Btw, obviously, this is AU, isn't all fanfiction?
Tom Riddle marched down the stairs for the 6th time that night. He didn't really mind, it was part of head duties, and being a head meant power. Tom liked power.
He was deep in thought about a recent discovery he had made. Deep in the restricted section of the Hogwarts library, the dark haired teen had discovered a book that described some interesting things. Could this be his ticket to immortality?
"Oof!", Tom heard a high pitched little voice say. "Sorry mister!"
Tom looked down and saw a miniscule girl, a first or second year Ravenclaw, by the looks of it, sprawled on the ground, some books scattered about her.
"What are you doing out this late?" demanded Tom in a voice that commanded both fear and respect from his peers.
"Sorry sorry! I fell asleep in the library and Madame Pince just found me and woke me up. Wait, I have a note!" she said all of this extremely fast, then proceeded to dig through her pockets and draw out a crumpled piece of paper and hand it to Tom.
"I see" he stated, "Now head back to your tower" he sneered, in a voice designed to strike fear and belittle anyone who heard it.
"Oh keep your pants on, I'm going! Hey, do you want a cookie?"
Tom was shocked. Not only was this puny girl not cowering in fear from him, but she was... Teasing him and offering him baked goods? What was this?
"Umm... ", He started, but the girl was already digging in her overstuffed book bag. She drew out a small tin, popped off the lid and drew out a star shaped cookie. She offered it to Tom, and seeing him frozen there, huffed, grabbed his hand and placed the cookie in his palm.
"Well bye mister" she said and waved energetically, bounding down the corridor.
Tom was shocked to the core. Never had anyone treated him like that. Almost as a friend. What had that little energetic girl done to him? He looked down at the white cookie with it's merry pink icing and butterfly sprinkles. He carefully lifted it to his mouth and took the smallest bite possible. He looked shocked for a moment, then took a large bite out of it, and for the first time in his life, smiled a real and true smile.
